Any photographers in here?

Lol You know....Them!! Those people!!

No but its just to give the best distance between camera and subject and f/11 if for a full DOF.

Now obviously there are different styles of protraits, but that is the standard for run of the mill boring studio portaits that people pay for.

I was looking at the 55-250 with the image stabilization, but I am only really planning on using it in broad daylight and I really want to be able to pull in close... plus my budget is a concern. I dunno though, I'm trying to work it through, so I figured I'd see what you guys said.

Right now, all I have is the 18-55. Toward the 55 side it really starts getting soft, and it is not close to as magnified as I would like to be.

I'd seriously save up and buy a used 70-200 ..even the F4 with IS. Dont' have to go brand new all the time. Or look into what the other manufacturers are offering like Sigma or Tokina. Or replace your lenses with the Canon 24-105 F4 IS

Even in broad daylight the IS helps a little. The better glass is worth the extra money, IMO. That said, the 55-250 is one of the cheaper IS lenses and gives you a hell of a bang for the buck.

My only complaints with it so far are that it's not nearly as good as a L-series lens (but it's also 1/3rd the cost) and the autofocus is very slow/dumb, so its tough sometimes at airshows and races. You get used to it though. I like its longevity though, and its very VERY handy in low-light situations, such as in the morning/evening.

yeah I want to be able to go past 200mm definitely... I was honestly trying to decide between the 100-300 or the 55-250 with IS so it's funny that you brought that one up. I think I should just get that one. my main concerns are full zoom and crispness, and the 55-250 seems to accomplish the crispness for sure. if it really does have better lenses in it, that's the way to go.

You'll be happy. Speaking from the point of view of someone who has both of those lenses, you'll be very pleased with your purchase!

I will have 18mm-250mm covered!

yeah I think it will be a good lens. especially for the money. now all I have to do is explain to my girlfriend why I bought this lens instead of tires...

Too late, you're one of us now... bwa ahahahahahahahaha

You know you wanna Josh!

I had a little canon point and shoot when I was like 18. I've been hooked ever since. I'm just afraid to invest in lenses because who knows when they'll release a new camera that won't hook up to the old lenses. :(

I can almost guarantee you that you nor I will ever see that day that nikon or canon makes a SLR that is not backwards compatible with all previous lenses.

When I say that I mean the mounts will not change. Focusing and auto metering may not work but they will ALL mount and be able to take pictures.

With they ever release a non-compatible both will have thrown away usage of millions of lenses. Not going to happen.

And to people looking for new cameras visit Ken Rockwell.
