sugestions?
dont talk about using the flash lol, cuz i know.
gotta get better somehow
It's your photo composition. You cut off the car in alot of your shots, or completely fill your shot with it. Filling the shot with the car makes it look like it's cramped into the picture. It's much nicer to see a bit of the environment the car is in. Placement of the car in the shot is big too. Avoid putting the car right in the center of your shot. Give your photo some asymmetry by shifting it off to the side a bit, and a bit higher or lower than the center of the shot.
Also, I see you are still trying those long exposure night shots, lol. I've learned that composition is huge for those. Your lighting also sucks, lol. Just keep shooting and look at other good pictures. By good pictures, I don't mean of nice, super clean, shiny, expensive cars. Pictures that are setup well and really make the car pop out, regardless what kind of car it is. Check out the pics FunkyBuddha has in this thread, and around the forum. When you look at his pics, your eye instantly gets drawn to the car. Well composed, great detail, very sharp photography.
Assuming this is your first DSLR, play around with everything, understand what all the settings do. There's alot, but just understanding what they do will help you alot.
Couple rules of thumb for car shooting too:
Don't turn your wheels to show off your tire tread. We don't wanna see that. On three quarter shots, turn your wheels inward slightly and show off that wheel. Doesn't have to be alot, usually a half turn or three quarter turn of the steering wheel, depending on the angle the car is at.
For three quarter shots, take the picture so that the car is pointing towards the center of the photo. You don't want the car to be pointing out of the composition. The viewers eye will wander over there and lose interest in the photo.
Play with angles a bit, but please don't go crazy with the 'tuner angles'. They hurt your eyes, and when taken too far, make for horrible pictures. 20 degrees is usually more than enough.
I'm sure other people can chime in and give you more of these too. That's what's fresh in my head right now.
