I ordered a set of stoptech slotted rotors... and am waiting for them while they're on backorder. I'm just wondering if anyone else is using the powerslot/stoptech rotors, or if everyone is using DBA or OEM... or another brand I missed.

Remember that slotted or drilled rotors provide mostly a visual improvement to your car. In terms of breaking where it matters, on the track, slotted and drilled rotors will warp, crack, and chew through break pads. Drilled are worse than slotted. I am going to stick with solid rotors but have yet to replace mine.

I plan to order the cheap set from PG when I get mine done. I did some research on them and they may be cheap but they have excellent reviews in the Subie Community by those that track and such. Every review I read was positive.

I used up the OEM rotors first, they worked well but the last track outing with them I was getting some fade and spongy pedal, a sure sign the heat was not dissipating well enough. They also had significant wear from 20k miles and several track outings prior, with carbotech xp8 pads. I use fresh Motul rbf600 fluid twice a year.

I replaced the front rotors with DBA 4000 series slotted rotors. The next track outing the brakes were flawless. Highly recommend the dba's.

My rear rotors are still in good shape, and I am using carbotech AX6 in the rear. The stock rear pads still had good thickness when I replaced them but were showing signs of premature deterioration - probably due to the excess heat of the track environment.

There are other brands out there for stock replacement. Rotora seems to be a commonly sold brand on the mazda sites. Don't know anything about that brand.

The OEM front rotors performed well when they had good thickness, I would use them again.

FWIW the carbotech pads are excellent performers. For me they are very noisy and rather dusty. Compromise I'm willing to live with. Some others have had less noise.

I agree for the most part.

Especially with drilled street rotors. In some high end applications, the holes are formed in the metal, not drilled, for lightness and the sweeping/cutting action. Consider very high end braking systems on high end porsches and ferrari. but for most of the drilled rotors you see out there, they are for looks and will likely turn out badly at the track. I've seen cracks forming from the holes and ruin the rotors.

Slotted on the other hand is more performance than looks. It does not introduce a weakness to the rotor unless improperly done. It helps to sweep fresh pad material, and give the dust a place to go.

Even the "formed in the metal" swiss-cheese rotors will crack/fail under extreme conditions way before a solid rotor of the same material. I've seen 911s with cracks in their factory rotors...

More than anything, slotted rotors provide a bit more "bite feel" than a comparable blank, but at the expense of faster rotor/pad wear (in my experience).

I prefer blanks myself.

using OEM rotors but if i have to get a new one, i would get the ones from rotorpros (blank, zinc plated)
