2006 Mazdaspeed 6
guys,

as some of you may know, Griffin intercoolers did a retro fit using the stock tmic off a mazdaspeed 6...

What they did was take out the stock mazdaspeed core and weld in a better core of their own design. It has about 5 more rows for additional cooling capacity. 30% + gain in efficiency/cooling and the car will spool faster...

...the best part is, if it does get headsoaked in traffic, it will cool down much faster than an ETS. It will also fit under the stock shroud so it can be hidden from those sneaky dealers looking to see if the car is modded...

:D

very nice! do we have a price on this?

I paid $400... kind of pricey, but this is a first time deal and the core had to be engineered. The next time around they will have the specs and should be cheaper for anyone else :(

but the good:

You know it fits
It looks stock
The car spools faster
The car makes more power
The car doesnt soak as bad
Cools off faster than upgrades

thats awesome. defin keep us posted!! and thanks for pioneering the way. if ur ever in toronto ill take u out for a drink lol(friday)

Do you have any test data to show that it cools faster than the ETS? Will Griffin provide specifications and test data to support the product?

ahh, the tech questions...

blender, these are good questions and im going to post data when its all said and done. The test data for the subaru retro fit backed up their claims... lets hope the mazdaspeed does as well. I just sent off for my ATR today so hopefully when it comes in, i'll be able to get some test data... i also have a lazer thermometer so i can take rough data... i have no thermocouplers :(

Griffin is well known in the industry and build custom intercoolers for V8 hotrods to just about everything... i dont think the engineering team would let something not performing well leave their doors... but you never know.

test data comming... stay tuned blender!

I'm quite familiar with Griffin. I've used their radiators in my 8 second Nova for several years. I want to say I use to use an oil cooler by them once as well. It's good stuff. I am simply asking the questions that everyone should ask before they invest in a product. There are items that fit the purpose, then there are items that push the envelope of the competition. Any company can put a product out there. Making it cost less and perform better than the competition is what it's all about.

I look forward to the test data. :)

Badass! 8 sec Nova FTW!

Btw, sorry if i came across like i was being a dick, i worded what i said kind of wrong. The questions you made are all good questions and i need to back up my claims. I cant wait until this thing gets here so I can see what it does.

You are exactly correct, thats what competition is all about. Personally, i love the ETS tmic, its a great idea and i forsee the Griffin not necessarily performing better... I just hope it performs just as well and cools off a bit faster

You've gotta try a lot harder than that to offend me. No worries, bud.

Nice, I hope it performs I like the sound of this intercooler option the most honestly. I'm probably never going to upgrade the turbo so no real need for a FMIC.

exactly... the goal here is to squeeze a bit more out of the DD... mine will stay the way it is for a month or two... probably get lowered and maybe... just maybe it will get some all white enkei rpf1s or with rota RE30 (18x8 fitment)...

im going to call griffin and check...

Initial impressions:
Car upon start up cranked around 130 degrees after install... after a quick drive around the block the intake temps fell below 120*... keep in mind this was low speed 20ish mph...

When i got it on the real roads i gave it some juice to see what it had. It built boost a few hundred rpms faster and the temps under WOT in 2nd gear fell to less that 110* ...this seems pretty good to me since i have the stock airbox and it was sucking in 100-102* air the whole time.

Driving around it ran 10* on average lower than the stock tmic and about 5-10* cooler under WOT. The car seems to run much colder and after all that, when i got home... i felt the intercooler and it was actually cool!!!!! my stock tmic used to burn the sheeet out of my fingers.

Overall, im impressed with the qaulity, it came in great packaging and seems to perform much better.

Need to do some data logging and post those up...

Factory intercooler is always cool after a drive, but heats up if idling.

If you can also get a boost reading to see if it flows better than stock, thats where the power will be, from the extra boost/flow.

Thanks, interested in price!
