very disappointing.
Dissapointing, but at the same time I'm kind of glad because I bought a Mazda5 in February, this means it will be "current" for another year.

I wonder if Honda and Toyota are doing anything in the microvan category (like the Mazda5) for the US market.

The news is pure speculation at this point, but I'm not really surprised, it is Mazda. How long did it take for the Mazda3 and the Mazda6 to be fully revamped? And they are the top sellers...

I'm also glad to read this news, keeping this model for another year is always pleasant, I really like it, so no envy for another year :D

Also, check this out from the original press release. Mazda does not seem to be too worried either...

Since its debut in 1999, the Mazda Premacy compact minivan has earned plaudits for its efficient seven-seat packaging, outstanding driving performance and sporty styling. Ten years later, the Premacy is currently sold in over 60 countries and has become Mazda’s best-selling minivan*1, with total global sales surpassing 710,000 units*2.

*1 According to Mazda’s fiscal year 2008 global sales results
*2 As of May 31, 2009

So has the Mazda5/Premacy changed much since its debut in 1999?

It slightly grew in size and received the same tech as normal like nav, tpms, HIDs, and other little options. The 1st and 2nd gen JDM versions have an AWD 2.0L option, and the refreshed 2nd gen has power sliding doors and paddle shifters. That's about it.

Yes as P2K details (1st gen:1999-2005). Also, now that I see the press release, it is a little bit misleading, it was not a six/seven seater in its 1st gen, it was a 5 seater.

This is Honda's answer to the Toyota Venza.
Maybe.

The Toyota Venza started out as a 6-seat vehicle similar to the Mazda5, but somewhere along the line switched to becoming a return of the Camry station wagon. They don't call the Venza a Camry station wagon, but that's what it is.

So is Honda bringing back the Accord station wagon to competing against the Camry station wagon, or are they bringing over the Honda Stream to compete against the Mazda5?

Ewwww, Honda Accord Crossover, a 5-seater wagon converted into an SUV (or CUV?)

Get us the Honda Stream, a worthy competitor to the Mazda5 :D

Interesting, they are bringing the Accord wagon back. I wonder if it will have a third row of seats? I kind of doubt it based on the height of the tires (R19?) as well as how high the rear looks.

Though if the Chevy Orlando (a concept car, in production for '11?) can have three rows:

then this Honda can squeeze in a third row. The question is whether or not they'll do it.

If they didn't do it for the Venza, I doubt it. I think the Accord wagon is decent, yet this CUV-fication is ugly IMO. It looks like they are doing the Subaru Legacy Wagon vs. the Subaru Outback type thing. I dig the Legacy Wagon, but not the Outback, too SUVish (and actually they stopped selling it in the US, just the Outback remained (yupnope)).

Interior spyshots suggest a second row seat with very long legroom, and fold down seats, but no 3rd row. I don't take this as a Mz5 competitor at all. Venza, yes. BMW 5 GT - not quite (kind of like the Accord vs 3 series competition car mags would do; the Crosstour should be a lot for the money, but not a real BMW competitor).

Geee, look what I found today, the crosstour won't be the wagon, it is even uglier :D (or all this Cross names are getting me confused?)

Allright so to keep on topic, no Honda competitor on sight for the Mazda5 in North America it seems...

At first I was glad the Mazda5 didn't really have any direct competitors.... but now I am beginning to change my mind. I think competition would push Mazda to invest in this vehicle... at least in N. America. It is a really nice vehicle that Mazda seems to be content to ignore.

there was mention they'd be dark grey wheels tho.

Far as stability control goes.. thats for people that either A. don't know how to drive for conditions or B. but more car than they have skill for .... hehe.

True, good point, Europe and Asia has more competition so the equipment and features make it more appealing...

The wheels are the same as my 2009 ...

Yeah, same thought. I went through the Mazda Japan site and did not find much, except the screenshot (see thumbnail) where you can see that the 17in wheels are the same design, but they have a *darker/glossy* gray tone, not sure if that's it or not. I would love to see those on gunmetal (naughty)

It's probably the look that the RAv-4 has with their 18" wheel option....Looks great on a white vehicle.
