Tinted Windows?

I'm sure at least some of you have tinted your windows, but Mass's law is 35%. I am wondering how this would look on a yellow P5, like is 35% _black_. Also does aftermarket tint have the same percentage looking from the inside, as in how hard would it to be see out, especially at night? How much does the 6 side windows and rear window usually cost, to get it done well with a 10year - lifetime warranty and 1 piece on rear window. Any pics?
Thanks in advance

It isn't hard to see out at all at night, my car is 35% front and 20% rear. if you sit in a dark room, but the hallway is lit up, you can see the hallway right? Same idea with your car, seeing out isn't a problem.

Don't cheap out. Some places are a good deal, but a lot are cheap for a reason. DO NOT go to one of those places with signs stuck to phone poles all over the place. Well, feel free to go, but don't complain about your peeling tint this time next year.

@bucksatan:
could you upload a higher res picture of your car so i can see the 35% tint better. I understand that 35% means 35% of the light goes through but i dont know how dark this would be and i dont want to shell out $250+ if it isnt going to be /that/ different. thanks

i have 30% all around, and its not hard to see out of or into really, including at night. Just choose a good shop with a life-time warranty on the work!

Here's 35% in the rear.

I currently have limo tint. It's ignorant because sometimes I have to roll my windows down @ night when I reverse park but I love it!

I have sunTek Carbon on mine. 35% up front and 18% on the back door and the rear glass. I have no issue seeing at all. The Cadillac behind it has 5% al the way around and I can't see well enough to back up with out putting the windows down on the Cadillac.

Where did you get the sunTek? I am in Tennessee and the closest dealer is VA? Can I just order it from them? Any info is appreciated.

Hey thanks! However, my car isn't even dropped yet. My Tein S techs should be delivered by Friday, hopefully.

HAHA I was just going to ask if it was lowered, or if the grass was just tall. Sweet pic though.

I would agree with getting it done professionally. On mine, the previous owner had it done straight from the dealer when buying it new, and 7 years later still looks good. I'll have to post some pics; basically my tint is purple/bluish from the inside, looks black on the outside, (don't know the percentage) and goes well with the midnight blue.

EDIT:
The previous owner paid $300 (CDN) back in 2002. I have no problems seeing out at night, highway at night is a bit dim, with no other cars behind, and no streetlights, (but you probably only need to worry about that if someone is stalking you...).

I only have the rear passenger windows tinted, but I was looking at getting the sunroof done, anyone else have their sunroof tinted?

yeah I did it myself. Real glad my others were done by a pro LOL. At least it's not real obvious. Anyway, I used 20% & do recommend it.

I had a proshop do it, most pro shops around here use SunTek and Llumar, with the occasional 3m thrown in

Don't do 20% if you live in Mass. Especially with a highly visible yellow car. You will get pulled over, its just a matter of time. Here's what 35% legal tint looks like on a blue P5...

I paid $250 to have it done by The Driver's Side in Plainville.

PS, be sure to check out the NEPOC section (New England Protege Owners Club).

i live in florida where the limit is 15% and i put 5% tint all around and did a 35% dark purple tint strip on the top of the front windshield. it looks beastly on my red P5. cops past by me and have sat at a light next to me. didnt do anything. depends on the area i guess. i'll post pics later. and it only costed $150. shop around. 250 for a 35% is pretty bad.

Yep really does depend on the area. I have no idea what percentage my car is. I went to a pro shop to get a "professional" installation. Not professional the first time but I made the manager do it. lol. Now it looks good and the first installer was fired.

I have a yellow P5 with 20% all around and paid around $160 in 2002 or 2003. Had it done in HI soon after purchased. I believe 35% is legal there on the front driver and passenger and anything goes on the remaining windows. I believe CA is no tinting on front driver and passenger and anything on the remaining windows. I could be wrong though. I did receive one fix-it ticket in CA for the too dark tinting on the front windows equaling about $100. I was pulled over specifically for the tinting, but I suspect the officer was hoping for something to add on to that, but there wasn't. I paid the fine and left the tinting intact. I'll consider it a tax for the privilege of having a uniform dark tint.
