Such BS from my dealer...

Thanks for the all the replies guys. For my next oil change I'm gonna try the same thing again and be more assertive about what I want. If he gives me the same crap then I will just turn around a send a formal complaint to Mazda corporate. Hopefully shake things up a bit for that Service supervisor (aka dickhead).

thats bulls***, synthetic or not, oil is oil! all this conspiracy that u cant switch between the two is bulls***! I personally use nothing but royal purple in my car and ive yet to have a problem with it.

I brought PP 5-30 full syn., and my dealer had no prob. they didnt say a word about warranty

wow, there's a next time?

why don't you:
-change your own oil
OR
-go to another dealer

The reason why they say that you can't switch from converntional oil to synthetic on older, higher mileage cars is that synthetic oil tends to clean out all the gunk/build up on/around various seals that are actually holding the engine together. There were many cases where synthetic oil was put in older cars because owners thought synthetic was going to make their engines run better, smoother, and longer. After the switch they leaked out of their asses.

Agreed. Why go to the dealer to get the same crap a quick-change place would give (Jiffy Lube excluded, of course. Those clowns apparently can't change a roll of toilet paper)?

Wow, going in tomorrow with my own oil and filter to the dealership for my oil change. PP, they love it. $15 if I bring my own stuff. Well worth it for them to have records of oil changes there. I do every other myself.
