My feedback after uninstalling my AP

A few days ago I unmarried the AP from my MS6 for a local MS3 guy to test out on his car. He's been toying with the idea of getting one, and it wasn't a big deal for me to let him try it out. Went through the AP and easily uninstalled it, then took it easy.

Now after putting some miles back on it, it's clear that the AP is a solid investment. It satisfies both the desire for more power, and also gives you a better overall driving experience. Power is more readily available, you'll see more top end than vs. a non-flashed car. Driving a mixed city/highway regimen, it really excels on the highway. Passing at mid-rpm speed in 5th is a blast, and even kicking it down in 6th is a much more visceral experience with the AP equipped.

To those of you out there that are on the fence about the car, driving with or without, it's a solid upgrade. Even on a stock car, I feel that you would benefit nicely from this mod. The car 'wakes up' with the mild reflash that Cobb provides.

So there, to sum it up, here are my thoughts. If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Glad to know it makes that big of a difference. Mine should be here on Monday. What mods are you running and what map?

Off topic but how many MI guys are there on this site?

I'm running MS CAI, Cobb TIP, SU test pipe, Denso ITV22s and using a Stage 2 93 map, which is solid.

And there are quite a few MI guys, stop in the local forum and say hello. We actually have a fun run coming up on Sat. if you're interested.

comparing the maps from cobb and from mzdspd.com, is any better then anouther?

I ran a map from mzdspd.com simply because it was a newer one than the same one on Cobb's website. I had only one issue with it, which was a little part throttle knock. Other than that, no issues to report.

Good to know.

My AP arrived this morning from my friend the FED-Ex man.

It's a lot smaller than I thought. I thought it was going to be the size of, well I'm not sure. My old SCT handheld tuner for my last car was enormous compared to this thing.

Someone linked me to the Mazda forum and I got some 93 octane maps. Stage 2 93 and Stage 2+SF 93.

So if I am not into the whole racing thing (drag, autocross etc..) this is still a good option for the whole driving experience. You are tempting me. Might wait till a used one is up for sale.

Why did you uninstall permanently? Why not just reflash it again?

The Cobb AccessPort cannot be installed onto another vehicle until it has been uninstalled from the Host or "Married" vehicle. I know because I had one. I sold it. I am drunk right now. Good day.

Let us know how it is! I was reading over a few other threads and we have a similar setup. I also have the CP-e CAI and am wondering what maps will benifit from it (..+SF..). I am close to buying one and you could be my turning point!

My car gets back today from a trip. I'll be doing some logs tomorrow to see what's going on and trying some maps out. I'll be doing some massive install work later in the week and I'll post up the pics. I have some cosmetic and some go fast s*** to do.

I know the ap has to be uninstalled and then someone else can use it. Tunersteve, is it a temporary thing and you are just letting the dude borrow it to see if he wants one?

Yeah, he's only borrowing it for a week or so to see if its worthwhile and working properly on his car. Unmarrying it from the car only takes about 5 minutes. Setting it back up takes 30-35 minutes to save your stock settings, then an additional 3-4 minutes to load the specific map you want.

Out of curiousity, i says on their site that the stock map is alredy loaded and that saving your stock setting is optional. Is there any gain from saving it? or is it a "just in case" thing?

If you run the stock map, the AP is still tied to the car. By uninstalling it, you set it back to what it was before the AP map went on the car, and it removes the marrying from the AP as well. You have access to a different menu when the AP is not married vs. when it is.

Installed the Stage2+SF 93 map.

I didn't really rip on it too much, but I definitely noticed improved driveability. I did a log just to see what was going on. Boost never went over 18, that's about all I know to look at right now.

I would say everything just runs smoother/better, definite power improvement as well. A+

Now if I can just figure out how to post the log for people to tell me what's going on that will be a bonus.

Does the AP merely increase the hp or does it also make the car feel smoother? My car's been somewhat sluggish after I upgraded the TMIC not sure exactly why. Probably gonna reset the ECU tomorrow and see if that helps.
