2006 Mazdaspeed 6
My dad "gave" me his regular 6 to use for daily driving over a year ago however it's time for me to buy my own car now. I'm young, and I still live at home, so I'll be driving to school + work, but nowhere extreamly far. I've done some research here and there and I really wanted to buy a speed6...

The regular 6 will be given to my younger bro as soon as I buy my car. I was looking at a few and they were all around $22,995 + with around 60,000 kms... How much did you guys pay for your cars? What are some of the main problems that come with these cars? Do they require a lot of high maintenance after a certain amount of kms?

All comments, guidance and opinions are all greatly appreciated. I was looking at the speed 6, and the altima se-r. both great cars btw.

I picked up my 2007 MS6 with 16,500 on it a few months ago for $19,500.

This car is initially very frustrating because it's not the easiest car to drive and you can actually feel the restrictions that Mazda implemented to meet with certain Japanese gentlemen's agreements with other manufacturers. With that said, it absolutely begs to be modified and opened up. I'm sure it is just fine the way it came from Mazda, but I was not happy with that. I purchased the car for the rare platform that it is, the AWD, the advanced ECU, and the way awesome way that Mazda has handled direct injection. With all of that going for it, I fell in love with the car.

In short, all cars are going to have their quirks, strengths, and weaknesses. If you're going for daily transport you need to be looking for economy, cost of ownership and maintenance, and reliability. If you're looking for a very unique and somewhat rare car that you can stand out in without standing out like an over-compensating Evo owner, then the Mazdaspeed 6 is for you.

blendercloud is dead on!

get a carfax, talk them down on the price, grab it and enjoy.

Thanks to everyone for the input. The most dissapointing thing is that in fact in the United States, you guys can pick up these cars for so much cheaper then we can, which just plain sucks :(. I spoke with a local mazda dealer around where I live and he actually told me not to buy one from the states, or buy one that was imported from the states because he said usually they have been in accidents or driven to s***? Not sure if that is true but that's what he told me...

If I were to buy a speed6 I would definetly be modding it, with many mods that already I have in mind... Only reason I left my regular 6 basically stock is because I wanted to save up for the speed then drop my money on it, rather then waste money on mods on a car that isn't really mine.

I definetly would like a rare, unique and fast car, because all my friends are seirous tuners, and they all own some pretty rare cars (from where I live). I did send the dealership an e-mail asking for a price decrease, I offered $18,500 just for kicks, and he rejected the offer right away and told me that all speed 6's won't drop in price until the new generation speed 6 arrives :(.

If I were you I would certainly not take what the dealer said about US/imported cars as gospel. People are people. Someone in Canada is just as likely to drive their car 'to s***' as an American or a Japanese person, etc.

Depending on how close you are, I would say that you should do some investigating to try to find an MS6 in the US. Then you can make a trip across the border to the US to pick up your prize. If you get a Carfax that checks out great, I would say it would be worth the trip.

Unfortunately for the northern buyers, there are much fewer options out there. If you can, go pick up one in the US and bring it back over.

Like Blendercloud said, this car is unique. Not too many people experience this car, and it's a great performer all around. It has a lot of room to improve, and it's a fairly easy car to mod as well. Nothing a few hundred bucks can't fix.

That's what I was thinking, I don't understand why an American would get in more accidents then a Canadian, people are people... I saw a speed6 imported from the states with 50,000 kms for $18,500.00 which was more along the lines I was looking at.

Does anyone own a speed6 with high mileage? like well over 125,000 kms? How does the ride change/maintenance costs when it gets 'old'?

Nope. I got mine right here in St. Louis. I ran the salesman ragged for about 9 straight hours. He finally saw it my way and the price was reduced from $21,000. I also got an extra $2,000 on my 3-series BMW trade-in. :)

From the crap your dealer is spewing, I would not buy from him just on principle alone.
Keep looking, they are out there, and for much less than your dealer's asking price.
Search around some more on this and the other forum. There are a few threads on the common problems and prices.

....told me that all speed 6's won't drop in price until the new generation speed 6 arrives :(.

go and tell the dealer where hes getting his info. as far as most of us know, there are no plans for a new speed6. around here you can get there are a lot going for around 16-17k with low milage

mine is an 06 with 67k(i drive alot). no major problems, just regualr maintenance.

There won't be a new MS6 unfortunately, at least not right now.

Go find a new dealer to deal with and tell this one to shove it, he's feeding you bulls*** left and right. There are several Canadian members here who've bought US vehicles with little or no issue at all. Get a carfax, have it looked over yourself, and you'll find one you want. Where exactly in Canada are you located? If you're in Ontario, come into MI and get one.

i picked my MS6 up about 3 or 4 weeks ago for 16000 + tax... pearl white, 26k miles beautiful car... keep searching around! plenty of deals...

I switched from a subaru sti to a 441whp integra to a mazdaspeed 6 and i love the change.

Here is the big question... what are you buying the car for? i would assume your buying it to go fast?

Get the mazdaspeed if you want luxury and decent speed...
Get an Evo/Sti if you want raw performance (do not get a wrx)

wow this forum has a lot of feedback I love it :D lol. Yeah there many dealers around where I live, I only e-mailed one of them and he was the one who told me: (direct quote) "Thank you for the quick response but we will pass on your offer. These are a special vehicle and until the new generation of Speed-6 arrives in two years, the existing ones that are far and few will hold their price." So according to this plug, they're coming in 2 years :S?

And yes I'm located in Ontario, southern specifically, so pretty close to the border. As for preference, I wanted a luxury/some what fast car... I also like the fact that it's almost a 'sleeper' without the huge evo wing or massive stupid looking hoodscoop... I also wouldn't want an evo or sti because my friends own those cars, so I wanted to be different.

Sounds like those dealerships are proud of that car.

Things you have to consider before you buy the speed 6...

Its 200+ heavier than an sti/evo
Its one foot longer
Is a much much much better DD
It has direct fuel injection
Has less aftermarket/tuning support
Handles well
Has nice color choices

The best thing i can say is to go drive one... If the lowest price you can find is 22k, i would pass and buy an evo 9... if you can find one for less than 20k then i would look at it a bit harder.

id get the speed6 over evo and or sti regardless of price.. main reason is u can do 400whp on speed6.. why in gods name do u need 5-6-7 hundred horsepower? ? ? lmaoo.. plus when ur with ur girl/wiffe or w.e it can actually pass of as sumwhat of a nice lucery car ahah without the grumple and the killer bumps and everything else that comes along when u have an evo or sti.. so yea speed6 all day every day FTW!

Yeah I've decided a while back I did not want the sti or evo... For some reason I like bigger longer cars like the spee6, altima se-r, passat r36, ect... the weight does not concern me that much I just prefer the speed 6 a lot more, the evo nor sti isn't getting in my way, it's the price lol.

I'm gunna try and talk down some dealers and make some more phone calls. If I have to I'll go through the process of determining how much it would cost to import one from the states.

actuallt the sport model is 3400 and the grandtouring full-loaded is 3600 lol.. so if u want a about 200 pounds lighter then do the sport. thats what i did and never lookd back =)
