Help: Temperature Gauge Fluctuating - Cooling Issues

Hi all,

Usually my temp gauge is just under the half way point... just today and yday I noticed in hot summer days its been at the 75-80% mark. I added some coolant and it still happens. Noticed this yday afternoon when I was trying to blast my A/C (maxed out) and nothing but hot air was moving through.

-Both fans seem to be running.
-Temps seem to rise more when I'm stopped, so when I'm moving the air helps it.

Any advice besides flushing the coolant?

TIA

TYPICALLY, if it was a problem with your coolant, the temps would go down when you were stopped or at lower rpms becasue there is less heat being created by the motor. I would check your thermostat.

thanks guys - got an oem thermostat will replace tmrw morning... part# KL01-15-171A-9U.

quick question, if I dont want to flush my coolant yet (i just poured in a lot of new fluid)... can I just remove the hose/housing get to the thermostat and replace it? Am I right in assuming no more than a cup of coolant will leak out? or will a lot come out if I dont drain first?

tia.

I think you'll get quite a bit more than a cup, but don't quote me on that :). As for your original problem, if the thermostat doesn't fix it, try feeling (carefully!) your cooling system once the car is warmed up to see if you can find any cool areas. For example, if you find that the lower radiator hose is cool but the upper one is hot, then you have a clogged radiator.

thanks all for your help!! the thermostat did the trick!

p.s. for those of you who are gunna do it... 1/2 gallon to 3/4 of a gallon of extra coolant will surprise you when you remove the thermostat. :) so remove SLOWLY.
