i feel so stupid....today i added 87 octane fuel to my ms3.as what the car recommanded premium only!!. quick question: would the lower octane fuel cause any problem to my engine?? i think i lost power compared to premium octane fuel......

Just stay out of boost untill you can use up the 87 gas then fill up with the proper gas. They reccomend premium for a reason. Lower octane can cause detonation... detonation can equal boom... so yea, I would say it has the potential to cause damage.

i use 93(permium only) all the time, i wasnt paying attention when i chosing the pump, well i guess i have to stay out of boost, just in case when i see some ricer on the freeway u know what the speeds can do..!!

Yea, I know the whole not paying attention thing... We have a Mobil around our house that has the fuels backwords. It goes 91 89 87 from left to right. What ass-hats!!! The first time I got gas there I put in 87, oops.

the shell gas station around my house are worest.. they put 89 93 87, i always go to exxon, at least at exxon 93's are on the left, i was kinda pissed when i put the pump back, 87?? what i just did...

at the first sign of knock your ECU will compensate the timing accordingly, so you shouldn't have too much of a problem. but like suggested just stay out of major boost .

maybe add some octane booster or something?

According to the book, you're OK. It also says it may take a few tanks of "the good stuff" for the ECU to readjust.

Wow, I've never NOT paid attention to what I fuel up with. Good thing you guys didn't go to the diesel pump.

i think you need mucho jail lube to get the diesel nozzle to fit our tank hole.

i was thinking the same thing but wasn't sure if the diesel nozzle was actually bigger or not. i know for certain that leaded pumps have bigger nozzles than unleaded.

i did make the mistake one time of parking the car right in front of a diesel pump, almost put my card in too but then i noticed there was only one button where there are usually at least 3 for octane selection.

I once had to put 87 in due to a gas shortage in Georgia and 93 was not available and I HAD to drive across state to be home... paid 5 dollars a gallon for it too...
it was a real FML moment...

Your car will be fine... it probably won't predetonate. Just don't make a habit of the mistake i guess..
