-1 the turbo. One of the best parts of the 5 is that it runs great on 87 octane. No current turbo set up does that! I drive way too much to be putting in premium.

I hope they make the gas tank a gallon or so larger too.

As long as they keep the price attractive, any improvement is most welcome.

If the price approaches that of the Odyssey, the wife will be attacted to
the bigger cargo space offered by the honda.

Not gonna happen, the next gen 5 will probably go up a few hundred to a thousand at the most base.

Besides, you can get a Dodge Grand Caravan for about the price of a 5, would she consider the Caravan instead? lol.

Sadly, the Caravan might not even be an option next year.... Not alot can be said for Chrysler cars these days but their minivans are perhaps the only line worth saving.

The Journey doesn't look too bad either.

I mean if you need a real minivan I guess the 5 is out of the question regardless. We've all chose the 5 because we needed something super practical, versatile, seats 4 adults + 2 children (or small adults), in something that doesn't weigh 4500lbs. If the 5 didn't handle the way it did or have a 5 speed manual transmission I would have never considered it.

+1

The other thing they need to fix in the new model is a redesigned gas cap. The stuck gas cap problem is just too common and it is a total pain.

that's from the last car show in Tokyo. Looks like that could be next 5

Mazda has announced equipment details for the Premacy, its Japan-market compact minivan that closely parallels the Mazda5.

Based on this, it's likely that the 2010 Mazda5 will return with just a few minor equipment changes.

In Japan, the Premacy gets a new fuel economy gauge and a newly redesigned glossy piano black center panel, plus new fabric and door trim for some models. Also for the first time rearview and sideview cameras are offered as a dealer-installed option, so we might also see this show up as an option in the 2010 Mazda5.

Several new colors have been added, including this attention-getting Dark Plum Mica.

In TheCarConnection.com's Bottom Line on the 2009 Mazda Mazda5, we list the Mazda5's compact size, seating for six, space-saving sliding doors, and rare-for-the-class manual transmission as positives, but note that the Mazda5 lacks electronic stability control at a time when every other minivan and crossover rival we can think of has it. We wouldn't mind a little more power or more supportive front seats either, but overall the Mazda5 is an editors' favorite among small people movers.

We'll update you if equipment changes for the U.S. 2010 Mazda5 end up being any more extensive than anticipated.

The dark plum mica is back (at least in Japan :D). Those wheels should look interesting...

Does that sound like is true? Yay? Nay? What are your thoughts?

HIROSHIMA - July 3, 2009: Mazda Motor Corporation has announced upgrades to its Premacy (known as the Mazda5 in overseas markets) compact minivan in Japan. Popular due to its sporty styling and driving performance, the freshened Premacy goes on sale today at all Mazda, Mazda Anfini and Mazda Autozam dealerships nationwide. Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (including sales tax) for front-wheel drive (FWD) models range from 1,820,000 to 2,195,000 yen ($18,937 to $22,840 equiv.).

Since its debut in 1999, the Mazda Premacy compact minivan has earned plaudits for its efficient seven-seat packaging, outstanding driving performance and sporty styling. The range topping 20Z model grade now comes with specially designed aluminum alloy wheels and seat and door trim that enhance its sporty appearance. To highlight its sharp lines, exclusive Dark Plum Mica exterior body paint is also newly available for this model grade. In response to high demand, the mainstay 20CS grade has been augmented with a new fuel economy gauge and a freshly designed center panel. With the addition of these features and a full equipment review, the upgraded Mazda Premacy 20CS is even more affordable than before.

All Mazda Premacy FWD model grades qualify for Japan’s eco-car tax incentives, with 50 percent reductions on both the automobile acquisition tax and the automobile weight tax.

So....

a. New wheels;
b. A few more exterior colors;
c. Redisigned seats / door trim;
d. A fuel economy indicator;
e. A newly designed center console; and
f. Side / rear cameras will be available as a factory option though this will be on the high package only (surely it will require navigation).

Hmm... not bad, but nothing substancial . The changes from '07 to '08 were better.
