2010 Mazdaspeed 3 Pics and info

I actually like the change in look.

The aero numbers for the 2nd-gen Mazda3:

Mazda3 MPS (i.e. MazdaSpeed3)
Coefficient of drag: 0.32
Front projection area: 2.217m2
Coefficient lift (front): 0.03
Coefficient lift (rear): 0.03

Mazda3 4-door
Coefficient of drag: 0.28
Front projection area: 2.217m2

Mazda3 5-door
Coefficient of drag: 0.30
Front projection area: 2.217m2

Source Mazda Motor Europe, so it is Euro-spec.

If I remember correctly, N. American spec 1st-gen numbers were .32 4-door and .34 5-door.

The aero numbers have improved significantly, and having driven the the 2nd-gen, it is quieter (although that comes from more than just aero numbers).

I'm really late on this one but that is so much ugly in one place. (ughdance)(pukey)

great job mazda, made the car uglier, heavier, didnt improve any performance, way to compete!!!

LOL, you're painting a pretty grim outlook based on a single data source. My guess is that Mazda kept 0-60 similar, and the taller gearing will probably allow you to hit a 60 (optimally) in 2nd. That in itself will reduce a .2-.3 second lag over the previous version.

I am expecting 1/4 mile and slalom numbers to improve due to the taller gearing, more linear power curve, and improved suspension. Best to withold judgement until a few editors test the U.S spec MS3.

Finally someone with some perspective

Thank you for breathing some sensibility into this crowd of naysayers.

Yeah tell me about it

It is quite painful listening to all the narrow minds.

They better watch it because Mazda may get sick of it, do a VW and castrate the 3 into something like the current Corolla-cloned Jetta. Which is a total chick car with no balls.

agreed with the corolla-esq looks of the '10 3 sedan, not kidding i mistook it for one from the side.....

Haha... at least the new 3 is different and distinctive... I like the hatchback... the sedan is iffy at best for me. Mazda 3s are great cars. For economy car coin you get a truly sporty little runabout which is perfect for daily driving and spirited driving... its only downfall I can see is the gas mileage... I mean a Civic and Cobalt get 35 and 37 respectively, in their most fuel efficient, non-hybrid, forms. And mileage is what people are looking for these days... Me, I would much rather have a sporty little car like a 3 than any of the other boring econoboxes out there... except maybe a VW rabbit... still nah. Mazda 3 FTW!!!

sorry, but went to ny today to car show and saw the speed in person. wanted to badly to like this car, but found that the pictures are dead on. and not those glamour pictures mazda released. check out the ny pics, it just doesn't look great at all and nobody was giving it the time of day. and i'm not gonna say it won't be great performance-wise, but looks wise, i'll pass and keep my 08.5. front is just weird, rear is worse. wheels look small and car has lost it's euro look IMO which is what i loved most about this car.

saw it in person at the nyc auto show today. it's ugly. really ugly. i'm happy i'm picking up a 2008 model in a few days.

saw one at the dealer today. doesnt look too bad. I can see it growing on me once i get used to it

dont think the new 3 sedan will ever grow on me, the 3hatch though is a def. love the looks even though even that looks slightly like a new matrix
