so i need anyone and everyones help here. i dont know if this ever happened to anyone else but the other day i was driving and things were going smooth. drove home hung out at the house until i needed to goto work, so i jump in my car and went to start it but nothing. battery and all electrical was fine just the starter didnt seem to want to turn over. so i called in from work pulled out the started and pluged the terminals up to another battery and it kicked up like it wanted to start something.... so obviously my starter isnt shot, so i plugged it all back up and still nothing, i checked the fuse box and i hear the click when i turn the key but still doesnt seem to get any power to the starter.... so what i did a far as a "cheap" fix.... probably not the safest is i have a switch in my car tied to the battery and to the starter show when i put the car in start and flip the swith the battery starts the starter which then starts the car... basically bypass the ignition harness.... the question is has anyone every heard of an issue like this? or any suggestions on how to fix?

I've had my battery do that before. But it's not very often. I call it gremlins. My car has actually even shut itself off while I'm driving it. Throw some holy water on it and call it a day! lol
I never found out what my problem turned out being though. Not that it helps, but I just wanted to say that I've had a similar problem.

I'm having similar issues with my car as we speak. This issue is temperature sensitive for me as well. I have been able to leave the hood open and let the engine cool down for a while and the car will struggle to start, but starts none the less. I have been a bit skeptical to the cause, the transmission was just replaced and the fools that installed it forgot to install a grounding bracket on the transmission. I fastened said bracket and the car worked great, no issues whatsoever, and now today as I was getting it smogged it has somehow come back. If it didn't rain here all the time I would pull the starter out and get it tested but I think I may have to take it up the (moon) and pay for the whole cars' electrics tested.
Not much help, but if you find a solution please let me know. I'll be sure to do the same.

My dad`s old 1977 Ford would do exactly that... the problem? the Selenoid.. every freggen time. (ya it happen ltos for some reason.. fucken fords)
As to where and how to change the one on the protege i have no idea.. the manual should tell.. i`m not even sure there is a selenoid acutaly!

Check your grounds. Found out that the bracket bolted to the transmission case and engine block did not allow enough current to flow. Turns out that this burned out the ground to the clutch relay and the car would act like the clutch wasn't engaged during a start.
Hopefully you won't have to replace all the grounds in the engine bay because they got burned up.

yeah ill have to check the grounds this weekend. been busy havent go around too messing with it. just was thinking solenoid because that happened on my ex's mustang.
