New to Mazda .....

Well I am going to pick up my 06 Mazda 5 tomorrow morning, so as I usually do I start doing research to find out the pros and cons of the vehicle. I am a car modifier and even though this is going to be my wife's car I still like to know what options are available.

My first planned mod is actually my XM satellite. I noticed that the factory head unit does not have an aux. in, on the front of the unit nor a tape deck so my first Mazda question is how do I connect my XM satellite to the head unit without having to use an fm modulator? Is there an aux. in on the the back?

I currently drive an 00 Audi A4 that has every part of it modified, but I liked the Mazda the first time I saw it today and that's why I'm getting it as it looks to be a good vehicle.

Here is a picture of my current vehicle, and sorry for the non Mazda content but I will post pictures of the new/used Mazda addition tomorrow.

The aux in is down there somewhere like by the cupholders or whatever, forgot where but it's there.

My non-navi 08 still won't play a MP3 CD. Has the non-navi 09 stepped out of the stone ages on this issue yet?

The 2006 will not have an aux in jack, but you will have a "SAT" button on the head unit for the xm/sir unit. This is designed to work with the Mazda OE Sat radio module available from dealer or online.

As far as being a modifier, you will be disappointed with the amount of mods out there for the 5. However the 5 is set up so nice already, not many mods are needed.(yippy)

No, it is still in the '90s on this issue (no .mp3 player). At least it doens't have a tape deck I guess.

If you really want XM, take a look at the aftermarket head units at Crutchfield. I'll be swapping out my head unit, most likely this summer.

I was hoping to be able to resolve this issue without having to buy a new head unit, but it may come down to that. I went on ebay and actually found a few complete navigation setups for a good price so that may be another option.

Fred,

I think you will be going aftermarket for your stereo. its not a big deal as its an easy switch. LOVE the audi btw. I went from a passat 1.8 to a CTS to the 5, and in my opinion, the 5 is better than both...I also have a 87 Jaguar v12 and a Mercedes e320 4 matic. the 5 is the most versatile car on the road. handles great looks cool, good on gas, can haul everything you need.

enjoy1!

If you go aftermarket, get the Pioneer AVIC F900BT, that thing is sick. I actually like the old AVIC-Z3 better because it looks completely stock in any car it's put in because it's just a thin bezel with no buttons but the F900BT looks pretty sleek. It has MSN Direct capability so it can download traffic reports (with the ability to reroute around traffic), movie times, etc. wirelessly to the head unit. Has Bluetooth, you can put XM or Sirius into it. I may go that route personally, it costs half as much as what they're asking for the NAVI option.

EDIT: Well the 5 GT already has Bluetooth so not sure how that'd work...
