Bigger turbo changes everything!!!

Unfortunately, I am a noob and I purchased those items and did not by a tuner device. Recently I had the last of my mods put on and before they could back the car out the shop, nothing but bluish white smoke. They had put on my tbe with no cats and they said my turbo seals were to blame. Long story short, I ordered the disco potato and am now waiting for it to arrive for the install. Hopefully my car will stop smoking when it idles for more than 5 minutes. I think the worst news of all was that I still had to spend yet another $1300 on the CP-E standalone, PnP and MSD Dashawk to tune my car and monitor everything. Really didn't expect to spend so much money in such a little time. Just wondering why the Cobb ap wouldn't be able to handle my set-up since it seems more cost effective?

the ap COULD handle it if there was a way you could tune it yourslef, but right now you can't

I'm not sure why the AP couldn't handle that, they have maps for the 2871 turbo in stage 1 and 2 upgrades. Also, if your stock turbo was smoking, take it to the dealer and get it fixed before you start overhauling your car. At least get a new spare turbo to hold onto.

Thursday the turbo will be installed, next week the Cp-e standalone, too many mods for the dealer to even look at my car without voiding my warranty.

You could demod before you take it to dealer. Downpipe and turbo manifold is the only pain. TMIC / exhaust will take you no time to swap.

Considering that the O2 sensors broke off in the stock downpipe and cat, I would have to purchase a new or junked replacement in order to swap out before going to the dealer. After next week with the piggyback and dashhawk install, the car should be good until I come back from deployment.

lol i stripped the hell out of both my o2 sensors when i did my downpipe. over $300 to replace both.

dealers cannot void your warranty and mods cannot void your warranty. Take it to the dealer.

wrong sorry...you need to read up on the magnuson-moss act.

(c) Prohibition on conditions for written or implied warranty; waiver by Commission
No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumers using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the Commission if

What this means is that Mazda has to prove that your modification is the DIRECT cause of what ever is broken. Your mods did not cause the turbo to start smoking, mazda using inferior seals is what caused it, and they admitted that there was a problem by releasing a TSB for it.

2302. Rules governing contents of warranties
(1) The clear identification of the names and addresses of the warrantors.

When you see a car commercial and the advertise the warranty, say 5 year/ 100,000 mile, do you see the dealers name anywhere on that warranty? No, because the manufacture is the one who initiated the warranty. Dealers can't even fix your car, mazda anyway, without getting the ok from the mazda corp.

LOL... Hear we go again. By the time you get a lawyer to prove that your mods DIDNT cause the problem you will have spent a lot more time and money than just fixing it yourself. Modded Mazdas are having their warranties voided all the time for mods and turbo seals going. It is better safe than sorry. Also, the mazda warranty states that anything not on their approved list can and will void your warranty. You signed when purchasing the car that you accepted that. Moss act or not... Just so you know.

That sounds great in theory and looks nice on paper, but good luck bringing in a heavily modified car to any dealership and asking them to repair something that broke, under warranty. In reality, they will deny your warranty without question. You can threaten with law suites and tell them all about the magnuson-moss act, but the end of the day, you will lose. sorry....

So a word of advice to anyone out there, if you would like warranty work done on your vehicle, do yourself a favor and spend the time to remove your mods before going to the dealer. It will save you a lot of frustration in the long run.

Not entirely true my Turbo Beetle was heavily modded including turbo back etc. And my brake switch kept braking they replaced it every time under warranty. They also warrantied work done on the car that I paid for even with the mods. I guess it depends on the Dealership
