I'm pretty sure we are not talking about the same mount here. You absolutely have to support the engine when you remove the tranny mount (the one under the battery box). Trust me, I watched my buddy's engine fall onto my driveway when we didn't have it properly supported from underneath.

I think you are thinking about the rear mount.
