it's impossible to use their oil spray bottle sparingly since each pump is kinda random, and doesn't spray in a line or evenly.

i let it dry 24 hrs after oiling it, took a can of air and blew from inside out, and it blew out oil, not a lot but enough to make me worry, so my question now is
do i have to re clean it again and re oil it? or will letting it sit say..a week, and it should be ok to put on at that point?

i put my stock intake back on for now.

If you're that concerned about it, you could buy a dryflow filter. I'd say if you blew most of the oil through it already from the inside out then it should be ok.

That's personally why I stopped using oiled filters. Regardless of how much they supposedly filter better, i've done enough research to help me sleep good at night that my dryflow AEM filter is doing great and won't be needed to be cleaned for quite some time. And when the time does come, all I have to do is give her a quick bath in a bucket of solution and dry. Set it and forget it.

No oil spray, "is it too much? is it not enough? omg i'm gonna **** up my maf".

Nope, sorry I should have clarified better. I have MSCAI v.2.

When I was researching all the different CAI/SRI options out there, none of them had 100% of what I was looking for. Bulletproof design, quality dryflow filter.

Cobb - breaks battery mounts, oiled filter
HKS - horrible filter
CP-E - Great design, aFe's filters are laughable, even their dryflow
Injen - Great design, oiled filter
AEM - Great design with straightener, gigantic dryflow
MSCAI - Great design with straightener, smaller dryflow with splashshield (great for the past couple days of pure pouring rain) and it's warranty friendly!

So...that was my reasoning. I used to mess around with K&N equipped CAI's back in the day and I hated the oil process. There is no written way on how to properly do it, other than "read the instructions and do your best!"

A Little Different Way to Go

Rather than using the aerosol oil spray, Ive always applied the oil from a squeeze bottle, running a controlled amount of oil down each filter pleat. Then I would let the oil soak into the rest of the filter and touch up as required. That way Ive never had a problem over oiling the filter or contaminating a air flow meter.

As I recall, Ive had to have the auto parts store special order the kit (K&N 99-5050), because all they would normally stock the aerosol. My experience is with K&N used on cars other than the MS3, not any of the other filters that appear to be popular with this board, so I don't know if those manufacturers will have the oil from a squeeze bottle available. They should, the control of the fluid distribution is better.

I still use the pump spray to clean the filter. Over the long haul the squeeze bottle oil has been less expensive as well.

Also, If it were me and I thought I'd over oiled the filter, I'd clean it and start over. That is cheap insurance.

AEM does make a dryflow to fit the COBB SRI 4.5" dia. 5" element part #21-206DK. I have one installed (sorry no pic) and it fits like a glove.

I just bought one of these. How do you like it so far? It says to clean it every 3 months. Did you get much out of it when you cleaned it?

I've never ran an AEM with my Mazda but I'll probably switch to one here soon (CPe Nano owner BTW). I had an AEM intake on three other vehicles and never had a single problem with any of them, they all worked fine with no issues or CELs. Cleaning was easy, I just used their cleaning solution and let the filter dry. Simple.

I was actually kind of pissed CPe sent me an oiled filter although I requested a dry one, I don't want to mess with the "how much do I have to oil this thing" guessing I did in the past with my K&N units.

^^^^ I hear ya. My Cobb is due for a cleaning but I don't want to deal with the oiling so instead of paying for the recharge kit, I just bought that dryflow for $45 shipped.

It'll make a mess LOL.

Only issue I really see is a reduction in air flow and the MAF sensor getting coated (both of which are not good, but not catastrophic).

well it's been about 4 days now, there can't be that much oil on it , ill try the compressed air again from inside out and see how much oil if any comes out.
