Install TurboX Down Pipe = Check Engine Light...

Alright, I had a local hop-up shop install a turboX downpipe on Thursday afternoon, and as I'm driving down the road today my check engine light comes on.... Whats going on in there? I'm taking it to the dealership to have them run a scan, what could be the isssue, what could be the fix II'm a Noob Please help!!!

First...don't take it to the dealership. Local autoparts store like autozone will scan it for free and it wont void your warranty doing so. Depending on the code you can troubleshoot accordingly. Get the code for us and we can help.

try disconnecting the battery, turn on the lights and drain the power in the car.

hook the battery back up and see if it comes back on.

if so, i would take it back to make sure they sealed everything up nicely.

a leak could cause the CE light to come on.

when i ran my BOV in VTA. the CE light came on. unhooked the battery and the CE didnt come back on. i think it was due to a vacuum leak somewhere

Diconnecting the battery will clear the code. But theres a reason why it threw the code. Would be nice to see what it is.

my catted cpe downpipe sets off a cel because the cat tempurature is below threshold. im assuming because the new at is placed further away from the stock cat so it is getting an incorrect reading. im not really sure though. either way, i wouldn't worry about it, just make sure nothings leaking.

Uh, I'm surprised none of you told him the obvious yet. OP didn't state this but maybe it's because he's running a catless downpipe? To the OP, if you had the shop replace the stock downpipe and cat converter with your catless downpipe then be prepared to live with the CEL on. It's the ECU telling you that something is wrong with the emissions system, which in this case, it is 100% correct. And as someone else already mentioned, even if you are running a catted aftermarket downpipe, you still run the risk of tripping the CEL. Whatever you do, don't bring it to the dealership to diagnose because they will most likely void your warranty.

There's not much else you can do at this point, just live with it knowing that you'll never know what other trouble codes the ECU may spit out in the future because if it is your downpipe causing the CEL to stay lit then the only other means of finding trouble codes is to periodically have the ECU scanned.

ya just go to autozone and get a spark plug non fouler and a oxygen sensor wrench for a few bucks, then screw the nonfouler into the rear o2 bung and screw the o2 sensor into the nonfouler. It will move the sensor back out of the air stream more and will be less likely to throw a cel. Diode fix is solid too.

I have the TurboXS Stealthback system (catless DP/RP combo into stock cat back). The spark plug extender only partially works for me.

I still get CEL's which sometimes clear themselves, sometimes not. It is the cat temp CEL. Persistent bugger. I even tried stacking two spark plug extenders between the bung and the sensor, but that made no difference. One does help - cut the CEL's frequency by more than half. But expect CEL's. That comes with the territory right now.

just got back from auto zone and the code he told me was PO421 and the explaination that it gave was " catylist temperture below normal opp levels. i'm gonna try the fixes you guys suggested and see what happens. I think that my next purchase will be my own scantool, I hear Matco's scantool is good what do ya'll think... good investment

na bro, get a dashawk. you'll love it.

i was planning to get a dashhawk, but was not aware that it offered a feature to scan, and rely the codes back.. If that's the case I'm going tomorrow.
