Just wanted to drop in and say hello to everyone. My name is TJ. I am 21, and I live near Chicago. I am currently looking for a p5. So if anyone knows of any nice ones that are fairly priced, please PM me and lemme know!!! Thanks in advance!!

Welcome, my name is TJ as well and I live just north of you. Anyway, checkout craigslist.com... right now people are posting there cars, sometimes fairly cheap, and dealers also tend to list inventory there to. If you do find a P5 from a private seller, I recommend having your mechanic check it over to be sure it is sound.

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, are there certain areas of the p5 I should look at when looking one over?

We're selling our P5 soon. But it's in FL. (peep)

And it's an autotragic.

ha...he calls it autotragic too....too funny....up north check for rust especially as always....look for oil leaks....listen to the motor....the 2.0l does like to have a slight tick when running at idle but it's normal...um mine has 104k and is good....i've repalced the vc gasket but nothing else yet....cept all the normal crap over the years

Welcome and yea dude up north = mad rust which is nasty.
gl on ur p5 search and "autotragic" comment was pretty funny.

Thanks for the advice. I do have a tendency to fly down south to buy cars. They always seem like a better deal to me. And the no road salt is a big plus.

I just test drove this car.

The car is very responsive, and handles great. As I thought it would having read some posts on here. But, during the test drive, I got on it a little bit and noticed an exhaust leak. I pulled over and looked under the car. My buddy revved it up and it sounded like it was coming from before the cat. I guess what I'm getting at is, should I steer clear of this car, or would it be a good investment to just buy it, and re-do the exhaust completely?

hmm, car looks good for a northern car, but umm best to find out exactly where the leak is and see if you can get them to repair it or sumthin b4 you buy it, if you buy it.

I got a ton of stuff repaired and paid lil extra b4 i bought the car.

Thats what I was thinking. I don't think they would repair anything though. There a very small dealership. Only work with used cars. I could always go back and offer something lower than there asking because of that though. I do plan on re-doing any p5's exhaust after I buy one anyway. I'll probably go back tomorrow and see what they say as far as trade-ins and numbers. Thanks for the advice.

That is a late model 02, has the side markers and 03 rims, I wouldn't let an exhaust leak put me off, that is easy fixed.

Pat.

If you were under the car you were probably looking at the primary cat (leak might possibly be a flex ring failure, which is cheap). Could be as simple as a gasket replacement or a hole that can be temporarily repaired until you can get to your exhaust project. Id say go for it but defiantly try to knock down the price
