Thinking hard about replacing my MS3 with...

I have been waiting on the new Camaro for about 5 years now. Needless to day I'm a little pissed that it's such a pig. 3800lbs is a lot to push around even with 440+HP.

With this said, I'm still going to hold off total judgment until I can test drive it. If it is as bad as I fear, then I'm not sure which way I will go. Just look at the Challenger SRT8. It's a total Pig. Best time I saw on Youtube was 13.3 which is sad for an SRT8 costing almost 50k.

The 370Z is cool, but like others I need the room (is why I traded in my S2000 for the MS3). The Genesis is nice, but not my taste.

If the Camaro falls through I think I will be looking to get a Roush Mustang. It has good handling, nice power and is S/C'd so I can do some very basic mods and get even more power. The price is not so bad as well.

how about the jeep srt8?

huh? read the last few posts in that thread. they say what the article i just posted said. the project is on indefinite hold. last month (or maybe just a few weeks ago) it was thought to be killed but then was put back on the plate. this month it's done
i saw that after i posted that...sorry...i didn't have time to delete the post. (pissed)

It looks nice and is quick as well, but not my thing. I have hopes that when I drive the Camaro it will have the power I want. If not, then the search will continue.

I wonder how much different it will be than the current g8 GXP? Same engine, close to the same weight. I think it will be pretty similar.

you know, that's a damn good point. if the engine is the same, and suspension, you're actually paying a pretty penny just for the body style. in other words, performance might be the same - or very close to it - and you're basically paying, what? $5k+ for the privilege of showing off the new Camaro curves. (jerkit) Substance over style, anyone?

the camaro is significantly cheaper than the G8 GXP. the GXP is very near to, if not over, the $40k mark. the suspension and vehicle dynamics will also be quite different. it may be similar in straight line acceleration but that's about it. you may be able to use the G8 GXP to get a feel for the engine and transmission (assuming you can find one on the lot) but that's about it.

^^

Vehicle dynamics? You mean, would it handle like a 1-oar boat or a 2-oar?

I do have to give credit to GM for both these cars though as they finally look like they've built cars that people would actually want to buy but I'm biased, pushing 2-tonnes is a lot to ask for from a suspension and chassis.

In the FWIW department...i always thought that lbs/hp was a useful # to have when comparing cars. had some free time over the wkend and looked up this stat for cars that have been mentioned in this thread.
CAR lbs / hp

Dodge Caliber SRT4 11.3
Dodge Charger SRT8 9.8
Dodge Challenger SRT8 9.7
Chevy Cobalt SS 11.5
Corvette Z06 6.3
Pontiac G8 10.8
Pontiac G8GXP 9.6
Infiniti G37 11.4
Subaru WRX 12.0
Subaru WRX STi 11.0
BMW 135 11.1
BMW 335 11.9
Honda Civic Si 14.9
Honda S2000 11.8
2010 Ford Mustang GT 11.3
Nissan 350Z 11.6
Nissan 370Z 10.1
Mini turbo 15.4
Mitsu Evo MR 12.1
Mazda MS3 12.0

do those numbers roughly match up to quarter mile and 0-60 times? i would think they would with maybe some slight variance due to drivetrains

buy a used 06 G35 and put a vortech supercharger on it, all for less that 35k and you would have a hell of a ride.

Yes, they do, in the same way that weight and HP can be used to estimate a 1/4 mile time. It's the same ratio used in 1/4 mile calculators. The major differences become weight distribution, grip, and drive train differences, but it's a good rough look at relative straight line performance.

another thing to consider... Think of all the DOUSHbags that drive 350z's. Now multiply that X3 for when the 370 comes out. They are going to be dime a dozen just like mustangs. Unless, the above mentioned is what appeals to you.
