Rush in a Car Crash! (MSP Totaled)

Oh geez guys -- while saying I appreciate the offers isn't sufficient to express how thankful I am that you'd all do all that for me, it really just isn't necessary. Though it does give me an awfully big warm fuzzy feeling inside, and makes me even more indebted to this community for everything you have done and have offered to do. :D

I'll continue to keep you guys updated on "what's next". There are a few cars I've been eyeballing .. but until anything definitive happens, I'm going to keep my mouth shut. ;)

so thats a "no"? - end of the road for the msp :(

good luck with whatever you chose to get next ;)

Starlet GT - with a 3SGTE swap ;) tiny and light (would flat out being 900kg with driver) - and more potential to make power than the msp probably ever had - plus nice and old school...

or pony up for an old datsun 240Z...rip out the L24 and drop in an SR20 or an RB26.

or keep it in the family, and grab an RX7 ;)

oh wait...none of those would meet your fuel economy requirement :P

just let the forum build you a new protege!!!!!

(2thumbs)

glad someone's listening ;)

Rush should guy buy her wreck
then find someone with a garage to store it
then go find a running P5 or MP3 no the cheap
then provide the legions of people who will arrive at her door step with food and beer and lodgings for 48 hours.

in that time, the motor and trans should be swapped, and everything else can be moved over as time permits.

Basically you could have your pride and joy (or something resembling it at least) back for the cost of your wreck + the cost of a car to put everything in....and i'm sure those that can't help directly (i.e. me) will happilly donate a few benjamins to help cover those costs.. ;)

I'm probably in the minority here but I say it's time to move on past a Protege. She's what, 26-ish? She's at the age where most will move on to something more upscale (aka settling down). I went through the same phase a few years ago but threw practicality out of the window and got another Miata. No wife, no kids, no need for a back seat. I was about to go with a Legacy 2.5GT or G35 coupe but didn't really need the backseat and trunk. Worst case scenario where I would need to get one, I could always pick one up, sell the Maxima, and still keep the MSM as a weekend car.

Thing is i see the MSP (and P5, and mp3) as practical cars...4 doors, reasonable luggage space, fantastic handling, very solidly built car (save for the rods and gearbox - but otherwise, quite problem free). The fact that they *can* be used for a little weekend fun doesn't take away from teh practicality.

At the end of the day its her choice - but to give it up *just* because she can't store it and the insurance company decided to be assholes and write it off but keep the salvage value high enough to make buying the wreck difficult, seems to me to be totally unfair...all i'm offering is an alternative - which is basically the alternative her Dad offered her - only better because she wont need to pay a fortune to get the work done! Added benefit is that the "new" protege can be made better than the last, because it gives the opportunity to fix the mistakes that may have been made along the way.

I was in a simillar boat when i got blindsided and copped a 1980's Ford laser in my drivers side front quarter...mine was repaired - but i can relate to how hard it is etc to have this happen.

i agree, its good to move on to different cars, esp when you have a chance to do so. when i get to around 26-27 i am definitely going to be looking towards a more luxurious car. something like an g37, 1 series or even a 370z, a coupe or something sporty yet comfy. i mean i love my protege, but i really cant see myself in this thing forever (nor will it last that long if this rust keeps building!!!). i mean if i hit the lottery tomorrow i will keep it just because i can, but i will definitely get another car too. hope you find something you really like rush!

You know, a "Rebuilding Rush's MSP" community project would be a little entertaining. Get every member to donate like 5 bucks, that'd more than help with the rebuilding process.

Of course, gr? is right... might be a little out of the "MSP Stage."

Damn, the last thing to post is wrecked car!!!

Maybe she's right and should go with some other car but finding a honda for cheap would be hard as their value has increased a lot compared to couple of yr's ago.

What you feel about A4's 1.8T AWD , if you keep it stock it "usually" requires less maintance and they pretty good on gas even with some type of chip.

On another side I can see she's changing which is fine as time moves on ppl do change (for better i hope lol).

(help)Community donation to Rush-- some one start a thread on this..
just a thought...(crazy)

Good luck wit ur new ride. A g35 would be a sweet upgrade. Again, sorry for ur loss.

OMG, is that a silver LX in the background already vulturing for parts???? Glad your OK. I recently "lost" a vehicle that was my pride n joy for the last 25 yrs. Finally replaced it with something from this century. I feel your pain, but in a different way. I "willingly"?? sold it after getting the new one. One door closes, another opens. Make the most of it & have fun with it.
