Beware MAZDA North America monitors Car Domain!!!!

I'm pretty sure the msp protege ruined it for everyone in the mazda family as far as warranty goes! All the replaced turbos just for faulty wga'a and blown motors and trannies...

You don't say? Would you say it ran faster? Maybe it handled better? I can't believe modifications to a vehicle would do that.

my somewhat limited experience with mazdas is that they run super rich. sometimes to the point where the make the engine perform poorly. they do this to protect themselves because cars don't blow up from being too rich but they do from being too lean. mods allow you to better your air/fuel ratio so the car runs better (and also consequently makes more power, which is why it voids your warranty)

in that case i would think you would care more if the warranty is in tact or not. you're likely going to take a hit on trade in or resale because of it.

and i agree with the comments on the MS3 which is why i don't own one. i learned my lesson after the first mazdaspeed. just don't say that too loudly around here

I won't be taking a hit due to the warranty, I'll be taking a hit due to the accident and mileage. The dealer I'll be trading it into will not know whether I have warranty or not.

I'm curious as to exactly what the OP had in the way of mods and whether or not he had a tune. This is mostly for educational purposes. I'm lightly modded, and I don't want to do something stupid.

People with voided warranties always seem to bring up that a whole lot of stockers have blown their engines. What is the failure rate of the engine in this car bone stock? 50%?

why won't they?

Dealers (non-mazda) don't look that stuff up... My car will end up in an auction due to the mileage.

I'm going in to the dealers, signing paperwork, and leaving the MS3...not my problem once I drive off the lot. Its a used vehicle...its not new.

Dealerships are so desperate to sell cars that one dealership was willing to take my car with all the body damage as is just to sell me a car... So I'm sure no warranty is the least of their worries... (lol2)

My engine is not blown people!!! Who said that???? (huh)

My engine runs fine...no issues... It just blows the dip stick at max psi (15.6)...

I didn't say YOUR engine was blown. I just see people constantly say that the stockers blow engines all the time. It was related to you generalizing the MS3 and all Mazdaspeed vehicles in general are POS cars.

I'm sad to hear my car is a piece of s*** :( I guess I'll go sell it now.

Yeah me too.

I know people are just on here sharing their experiences and opinions, but WTF???
In my opinion if you don't like the MS3 or whatever else- get off of here. I don't like Mustangs so I have never owned one or considered it- and also don't go on their forums talking s*** about their cars. To each his own.
I agree with the ones that said if you posted it on the internet it's not private info. I don't think that Mazda NA should have JUST went by that to throw out his warranty- but you know- they are big, they have money, they make the rules.
**If you are going to do mods don't assume ANYTHING**
Now to address the part about not taking it to a Mazda dealership to have it worked on... My husband is was whatever a Speed certified tech. until the dealership he worked for started screwing him over and he left there to work for Nissan. We bought the Speed 3 not only because we loved it but because he could work on it (except for warranty because Mazda won't pay for you to work on your own vehicle- but at least he could have been right there to make sure the work was done right). So we got a flat tire from a nail- the tire had to be replaced- extended warranty paid for the tire, but I had to take it to the Speed dealer- that my husband no longer worked at. OF COURSE- I get the car back- and they have scratched my rim. Not a little- ALOT. I was pissed- called extended warranty- nothing they could do. Now that dealership has closed down and I have to drive a minimum of 2 hours to the closest Speed authorized service dept so they can F-up my car some more. (I don't trust anyone to work on my car)
My point is- I don't want anyone touching my car except for my husband but since he doesn't work at Mazda anymore warranty won't accept anything. That's the only BS I have to call them on right now.

I wish you could waive the warranty and get a further discount on a car :)

Yeah that would be a good idea. Then you could find out how much you would save per month by getting the discount and put it in savings. Then if you did have something break you could just pay out of savings to get it fixed!

Yes but is that a ring issue...requiring a rebuild. You also said it failed their leakdown test.

The dealer said somewhat failed... The stock engines inherently leak in cylinder #3...so that maybe what they found.

As long as you pass compression test; you're golden.

Leak down test was described to me as a measure of how worn an engine is overall... But since the service advisers are generally clueless about engines in general (admitted by the actual service person), you have to take it for what its worth.

I feel your pain... I engine bay was immaculate... I got the car back and my oil cap was scratched and a couple of bolts broken...

Shows the quality of technicians at my local Mazda...

Yeah people just don't care anymore. It's not their car- so why should they care? It sucks- sometimes I wish I could smack people.

Mazda doesn't even make their own performance parts, its all done 3rd party. They had AEM make the CAI, which turned out to be s***. KW makes the coilovers which don't get warrantied. All factory tunes are garbage compared to cobb and others and theres a reason for that. The number 1 issues mazda has to tune for is emission and gas mileage, otherwise the car will never see the light of day. That means staying lean through spool up, and dumping a s*** ton of fuel after for safety. Neither of this is safe or necessary if you're not tuning for mpg/emissions.

They put their name on the part because they felt that a CAI was not dangerous and the workmanship passed general inspection (errors with sensors, well... a lot of new turbocharged cars react really strangely to changes in intake). They'll warranty it because they sell it and they know how it was made.

If it's a third party part where they have no say in the design and no control over the manufacture, they're not inclined to warranty it.

This is no joke people. Some intakes are so crappily designed, they cause engines to run lean and blow up (on Subarus). Incorrect MAF sensor housing diameter. And that's brand name s***.
