NEWBIE needs winter help

but wasn't gonna if 18" winter tires will still make me stay home in the snow.

I ended up getting dunlop winter sport m3's on the stock wheels and have been having a blast in the snow. * inches of unplowed snow and my car was unstoppable. I think people recommend a 17" wheel because they are cheaper not because they work better in the snow... Also I wouldn't go to the dealer for snow tires try tirerack or even directtire before going to a dealer...

thanks, that's what i needed to know. that if i got something on my 18", i could still move. trust me, i have had the car since sept and have put 300 miles on it. so i don't really go far. i will look at tirerack. thanks!

225/45R18 fit on the stockers. That's what I have on mine...

I have a set of 16" steelies with Blizzak WS-60's on them and I must say it's the best purchase I made. I am very happy I didn't go with just a set of 18" all seasons. The car drives great in snow! I def recommend dedicated winter tires.

i have 225/45/18 blizzacks on my stock rims. all im saying is, i wish i had gone 17's or jus got a smaller tire because i get so much snow and ice and all that good stuff crammed in the wheel wells. you really have to get that stuff outta there fast or it will freeze and is a pain to get out. other than the cleaning out the wheel wells after every drive, this car is seriously a beast on snow tires!!!

I also would recommend Tirerack. I bought a set of 17" rims on Dunlop Graspic snows and what a huge difference! It's also easier to swap them off every spring rather than mounting all 4 tires. Tirerack also guarantees fitment for all rims they advertise for the car. It was hard to find a rim elsewhere that clears the calipers. Gotta love this next round of snow coming!! I fully agree with RedBli$$, cleaning out snow from the 18's, pain in the...... Still get plenty stuck with the 17's, but better.

So, here I am. Still searching for tires. Needless to say, I have only driven 30 miles since November. So, I decided I should just get all-season tires. I usually only drive about 5 miles to and from the train. That's about it. I am moving so I won't have the storage anymore for a winter set of rims like I thought I might. So, hence the all-season search. So, when I went out to look at the tires that are on there now, I noticed there is a "gash" in the tire. WTF! I have only driven 1500 miles since Oct on those! And never hit a pothole...no curbs....UGH! Anyway, frustrating. So I was searching TireRack. I have been reading reviews and whatnot of all-seasons. Most don't get good ratings for snow/ice/wet conditions. But Eagle F1 A/S-C, did. Now, I know I will lose performance etc... But really, I am a sunday driver. I drive like an old lady. No corners at high speeds etc... I just want to be safe. So, anyone hear anything about these tires? Or recommendations about others? I read the reviews and either people can't drive or the other tires really aren't good!

I don't know anything about the Eagle F1, but I do have a set of the Pirelli PZero Nero Pinna all season's, and I can tell you from experience, that if there is more than 1/2" of snow up here, they are not that good. You can get around, but it's not ideal. There is just not enough tread depth to keep a nice grip on the road. That sucks that you wont have storage space for a second winter replacement set. I don't know if this helps, but I will agree that all seasons aren't going to hold up in harsh snow we get up here. You don't seem to need too much though based on how much you drive and how hard you drive, but the all seasons may be a pain for a few of the larger storms we get. If you can tough it out for a few crappy drives here and there, the PZero's have been satisfactory in my opinion. I get enough performance out of them in the summer, and I don't drive like a bat out of hell either. I do like to take corners fast though, and they hold the road well. It's an option. Just my 2 cents.

thanks. that's the info i was looking for. i just want to be able to have the option to drive in the winter if needed. if it's a lot of snow...sometimes nothing works well! lol. but, i can get dropped off at the train. for me, i just need something that will get me thru the little slush piles the plow guys leave.
