I don't think there are many upgrades available short of cryo treatment. The MSP guys are regularly popping their gearboxes it seems. What gear/fork let go?

Wow...This guy is a real winner.

What do you expect...the first response was a rip. I would have been pissed too.

The KL engine is unknown to me. I wish I could help you more. The V6 engines run G-Type transmission too? If so then there is really no better shift fork or gears except the newest model Mazda produced when it made the MSP.

Also all g series protege shift forks were beefed up and synchros changed material around build date march 02. 5th/rev gearing and shaft design were also changed.

Depending on what you're looking to spend look up par straight cut gears and there is another vendor selling helical cut not sure of the details and cant mention their name due to some bad business.

yes the kl motors use it. i seen part gears not looking to spend that much right now. i would like a tranny that would take around 400hp if im easy on it i know the stock tranny it hold for alittle bit but im not that good at taking it easy on my car. i seen the cryo treatment but was not sure if its as strong as say some one off forks.right now imthinking im going to go with a gtx 3rd and 5th gear set and a welded diff some have a set of new forks cryo treated.right now as my car sets im about 290-300hp im running a more less stock kl03 on 10psi with a magesquirt v3 setup for coilpacks in the mail i have some colt turbo cams and some other alittle things that will give me a little gain in power.i have a 95 mx6 tranny with a 4:10 fd ratio that i plan on beefing up some. again im sorry to the guys that helped for the way i acted and come off but the frist guy that posted was a dickweed and upst me alittle i know not everyone on the froum is that way as you guys showed

i have not broke my tranny yet i also dont plane on been the one my frist night to the track to brake it.i can tell my tranny is getting harder and harder to shift after each hard pull we make tuning it over 5000rpm its very hard to get it into 3rd gear

Get used to having a g-series. I'm on my 5th one

I'm around 330whp with my new setup for almost a year now... but I blew stock 3rd 2x once around 220whp and again at 250. 400whp your going to want something for 4th in my opinion. Gtx is still questionable on whether they're much of an improvement.

is there even much of a point in getting the gtx gear set or should i just baby it with stock trannys tell i get the money to get a welded diff and a set of par gear set and treated forks?i would like to run a 8.5" slick as this is a track only car its fully gutted no ac/heater core blah blah

If you're going to be putting down 400 whp on a gseries with 8.5" drag slicks it will not matter how much money you put into the transmission. You will break transmission cases

for the psot part the tranny savers are taking care of the broking of cases in the probes look at frankingprobe hes like 468hp on a stock tranny for like 20+ passes still holding hes just a pertty good driver and knows how his car will take

Last I heard frankenprobe was going through transmissions like tic-tacs. All im saying is 400 whp is a lot of power going through the transmission. The shafts inside will flex with that kind of power. The weak point really isnt the forks or gears. The syncros are what will be taking a lot of abuse along with the carrier bearings at the ends of the primary and secondary shaft.

havent people tired treating the syncros to make then stronger? i would like to have a stonger case made with stronger shafts but i would also like to do alot more to the motor to and im not made of money

cryotreating and shotpeening isn't the wonder solution its made out to be. at the level of power you are talking, neither of those processes on stock or gtx gears is going to make them exponentially stronger to the point where you'll be able to push over 400whp without thinking twice. i've seen cryotreated 4th and 5th gears from a G series rip apart at 350whp. the transmissions were never designed for that kind of abuse. one guy has done lubrication improvements to the transmission for his MSP. there are the PAR gears. are they alot of money? of course. are they worth it? of course. the phrase "you gotta pay to play" is 110% honest. i'd rather plunk four digits on gears and a trans job once than go through transmissions like water. not trying to be a dick, but thats what it comes down to for this community. good options are limited, and often expensive sadly.

PAR also offers double synchros and the bearing race brace which helps keep the case in one piece. I am replacing my turbo among other things very soon and getting to 400whp myself...
