XelderX's BG FSP Build

The time has come to put up or shut up. This weekend it all goes down in South Carolina. The FrankenPro will be in action on sticker tires against the other two fast East Coast FSP cars...Zimmer's Super Rabbit and Jinx's Civic. I'm going in for another alignment on Friday. I lowered the rear of the car 1 inch and made some modifications to the camber plates to get more camber. The add-on front swaybar is bolted back up. I took out some of the seatbelts which saved me a little over 5lbs, but the swaybar added a little more than that back. I'm hoping I can get some sort of heat into the rear tires as it looks like I won't have a co-driver for this event.

If you cleaned the carpets, you could probably pull 5 lbs of funk out ;).

Good luck this weekend. I'm excited to see how she stands up against Jinx.

Justin, you planning on doing pro's next year to get into the finale?

Good luck this weekend. I can't wait to see how it ends up.

I spent a long time vacuuming the interior when I put the racing seats in. I'll probably spend some more time with an actual carpet cleaner product of some kind over the winter break.

Hopefully. I have asked for the days off that I need. It's just a question of budget right now.

Start saving up now then! I have the same plan as you. Unfortunately, only one pro is within 1000 miles from me. Fortunately, it's in Lincoln! :) I am thinking about towing out to El Toro, CA but not sure about that one.

Good luck again (and we'll see how Daddio's neon will play out as well).

so he is actually building one then huh? SMF is looking like a better idea already :p

Daddio's neon will **** everyone. For those of you who never saw it in DSP it was FAST!!! And it was barely prepped. It was on little 225 14s.

FSP as we know it is over........VWs will be dead in 5 years....the big block 2.0 and 2.3L ford/mazda cars will be at the top with the neons and the 2002 and the old fsp cars will fall behind...............until someone builds an FSP Mini Cooper on 275s that is ;)

P.S. - Justin's car here could be the only lightweight car to do well :)

If it can get some of the same treatment the 1.8L csp miatas got it can make about 140whp :)

Jim Fienburg is wanting a ride and bringing his datalogger. I couldn't say no to that.

No kidding, let Jimmy drive that thing!

EDIT: Just don't ask him about the lump on his leg... ah the joys of beer fueled conversation after the proceedings on Saturday of the Danville SeDiv lol

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more than that. We are switching to 103 octane sometime early next year to get a little more timing in the car. AWR is sending me a new header and I'll hopefully have some adjutable cam gears by the start of next season. I found out the other day that when I dynoed the car last month the VICS wasn't opening. I'm not sure how much that cost me, but it has to be worth a few up top.

David, there's a guy I know (cough) building a no-holds barred AE86 to play in FSP! ;)

I gotta say that im not sure why there seems to be so much effort in getting so many DSP-ish cars sent to FSP especially when those cars havent(in some cases) been maxed out for DSP with the tools available today and FSP is really shaping up to be a pretty varied class with a lot of "sophomore" builds. Is something broken or is there some sort of rationale for all of this?

That said...as always, theres the car and the driver.
-Daddio is fast, fast enough to mask a lot of deficiencies in a car(well most any car).
-The 1st gen Neon is a funny car that does more than it should be able to....but you still gotta drive it
-Daddio isnt always a guarantee of a win (SRT-4 in DS) so......

The STR4 is a POS. It goes straight quickly....thats it. :) The grassroots srt couldn't keep up with our HS mini when it was running ;)

And JB I said 140 as a low # :) I'd hope for 150-155 too :)

Well, Neons scare me even less now. The car went out for it's first event on sticker tires today. It was pretty chilly, but the sun was out for my first 2 runs. My 3rd and 4th run the sky was very overcast and it seemed like the grip went away pretty quickly. I employed a friend to warm tires for me, but that didn't really work at all since there were a ton of timing errors during our run group which meant long waits between runs. We made an executive decision to put the stock rear swaybar on the car since there were a lot of high speed transitions. I'm not sure the big rear bar will ever go back on the car unless I'm on concrete. The car was amazing with the smaller rear bar. We made a few small air pressure adjustments and that was enough to balance the car. I made a big effort to go to this event as prepared as possible. I needed to see how close I was to Jinx and Zimmer. Jinx obliged by also showing up on sticker Hoosiers. The results speak for themselves. I wish I could say I finished first, but if you don't know who James Feinburg is, he's like Daddio's long lost Jewish cousin. I put him in the car because I knew he could tell me what the car was doing right and wrong.

The car went 1st place RAW time, 1st place PAX time, 1st and 2nd place in PRO class. Jinx and Zimmer finished 3rd and 4th.

http://www.scsportscar.com/content/autocross/results2.php?Event=20081206&Report=pax

and yes...FSP in the Southeast is no joke. Top 4 PAX were FSP.

The only "issue" we had with the car, and Feinburg discovered it, is that I need to work on the throttle tip-in tuning on the megasquirt. He gets on the throttle way earlier and smoother than I do and it was stumbling a little with him on small throttle inputs.

The funnist story I heard about the car all day from an unknown spectator...

Dude #1(on the phone) "There is some POS car out here hauling ass"
Dude #2---"What kind of car is it?"
Dude #1---"I have no idea."

Holy crap dude, that's freakin awesome! Someone mentioned something about it @ the ATL SCCA banquet tonight, but I didn't realize that you were running Jinx w/ both of you on sticker tires. Are yall running the 275s or the 255s?
