Finally joined the forum... and have a winter-izing question

Just wanted to introduce myself. Bought my '06 MS6 used with only 5000 miles (!!!) almost 8 months ago and have been snooping around on this forum for a while now. So far, so good. I'm loving the car.

Coming from bimmerforums.com, I gotta say you guys (and gals) have done well. Lots of useful info and some very helpful advice.

Now I need some guidance: winter is nearly upon us up here in Madison, Wisconsin and I need mud flaps to protect my ride from the 18,000 tons of salt we're expecting will be used (seriously... that's no exageration).

Mazda doesn't make any for our Speed6s and there don't seem to be any great aftermarket options. I've seen some members make their own from trash cans (very creative), and others re-drill Rally Armor flaps.

What's the general concensus? If I fork over $45ish for the plastic Rally Armor mud flaps, which should I order? Which fit our cars best?

If you have to have a set of mud flaps, I'd go with something tried and true and go with the RA flaps. I'd personally like to see a set of molded flaps for the 6/MS6 but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Eventually, yes. Money's tight right now so my wife and I will find a way to share her Legacy (which has Michelin X-ices) when it finally snows. I can't imagine driving the Spd6 in snow on the RE050As -- brake distances would be nightmarishly long...

I've been looking for a used set of winter rims + snow tires but haven't had much luck. I'm set on a devoted 17" package -- don't want to mess around with changing summer/winter tires on the stock 18s.

Anyone out there have a set they're wanting to sell?
