Turbo Timer Question

I'm new to the whole modding life and I look forward to learning more about it. I showed my friend a picture of someones gauges in his car and he said that they were sweet. He also noticed a Turbo Timer. I asked him what that meant and he explained it but I didn't really get most of it. Can anyone explain?
Thanks.

Kind of beyond my limited knowledge too, but until someone who knows better chimes in, my understanding is that a turbo timer prevents you from shutting down the engine until the turbo has had time to cool by turning at a lower-than-in-boost speed. For example, if you like to really work the twisties between the interstate offramp and your front door everyday, just shutting off the car will ultimately damage the turbo. I've been told you can install a turbo timer, or you can just drive out of boost for a few miles before shutdown and accomplish the same thing.

yea, u guys are right. a turbo timer would allow u to physically take the key out of the ignition and walk away from ur car while it is still running in order to cool down the turbo. it would then shut off on its own depending on what time limit u set for it. however, to my understanding u dont necessarily need one for the ms6, like the above post stated, just simply drive under boost for the last couple minutes before ur about to turn the car off, or let it idol for 30 seconds then turn it off.

exactly.

Agree with the above to posters.

They are not really needed for daily driving. If you pull into a parking lot in full boost and want to just shut your car off and walk away. Sure it is great. But if you just drive your car like a normal human being in a parking lot, stop the car, sit for 10 seconds, and turn the car off it would be safe.

Many say they are not NEEDED for our application, some say they are not needed BUT let your car idle for a minute before shutting off or upto 5 minutes after a hard drive. To me, that says you can utilize a turbo timer. Hell, I use one. With most driving I only set it to 30 seconds or a minute, as I am in traffic more than the average person. When I can open her up (oh, and I do) if I am stopping without much time to idle, I may run it for 3 minutes, but I don't run past that.

So is it necessary, no. Is it good insurance for the life of the turbo, especially after my warranty runs out, yes.

Let us know if you need help for the install. Someone told me about wire taps that make it super simple to wire it up

why do people continue to waste money on a turbo timer for this car?

if you don't pull into a parking spot at full boost and shut off the engine, there should be no coking.... hell, even if you do, the COOLANT running through it after turning off the engine will remove heat very quickly down to reasonable levels. Really.... just take 10 seconds every time you park the car....

on this car, a turbo timer is just for show to please the ricer in you....

i dont have time to wait... or drive around an extra 5 mins.. if i have to be @ work @ 7am -- & when i show up @ 6.58am :: cant wait 5mins...

yeah yeha-- im a.d.d. my attention span doesn't let me leave the house early enough... hehea
even if im dressed & ready to go.. something always grabs my attention.. heh
