Installing corksport DP

I'm about to pull the trigger on the corksport dp+rp combo and I was wondering how the installation process is for the downpipe. what kind of tools would be necessary and is it worth even attempting to do it myself? I've heard some horror stories with the o2 sensor's being ridiculously hard to get out and something about the hardest bolt to reach is also the hardest bolt to get off. any information about the install and also any input about how much shops usually charge for installing a dp would help immensely. thanks!

i know there is a thread somewhere around here that i am going to use to install my Cpe dp!! if i find the link ill let you know!! it has all the information you need excpept pics...

I've heard nothing but good things about it. It's slightly cheaper than the other route I want to take CP-e by about $100. Only knock is that I heard it doesn't have perfect fitment with the stock cbe. But that doesn't bother me too much since I eventually will purchase the corksport cbe ending with a complete corksport turboback exhaust.

I have the corksport downpipe and racepipe. I got a shop to put them in for me, labor was $300 I think to have it put in. Thankfully I signed something that said the price wouldn't go over $500, cause they stripped my O2 sensor and apparently had to go back to mazda to get one for some ridiculous price near $500 on its own. Car only had 6k miles. Watch out for that.

The performance boost was fantastic and only got better as the ecu adjusted. I am actually about to put a highflow cat in cause my girl hates the smell even though I barely notice it. The volume of the drone has come up quite a bit and it bothers me in the stop and go 6am morning commute, but otherwise its not an issue.

If I could do it again, I think I would go with a one piece with a high flow cat, like the cp-e. You stay performance legal (or at least closer) with a high flow cat and I think that's really worth it.

But yeah, pull the trigger on A DOWNPIPE. Your choice which, but do it and ENJOY!!

Jeeze. Never really thought about the smell. I have a dog's nose so if there is an irritable smell, I really can't stand it, especially the smell of sulfur (which is what resembles the smell of a cat-less car the most isn't it?). I'm going to have to put this on hold and save up for that catted CP-e unit instead then. decisions, decisions...

i dont care abut sm,ell either with my test pipe when i rev it you can smell fumes inside....but outside is even better :D i think my cat is giving up

Basically the car smells like a go-kart outside.... but honestly I kinda like it :D Inside you really don't get anything unless you are sitting at a light

The DP is a b****, I think I got a messed up version though, They didn't drill the holes big enough on two spots. I had to drill them out. Once I did that it fit really good.

Getting the old dp off is the worst. Make sure you have swivel sockets, extensions, long and short sockets, LOTS AND LOTS of PB Blaster, a set of open end wrenches, a O2 socket (DO NOT TRY TO GET THEM OFF WITH A PIPE WRENCH OR OPEN-CLOSED BOX WRENCH) you don't want to be replacing o2 sensors, one is $400 and one is $200. So be careful.

Oh and you won't notice the smell while you are driving, only when you are stopped for a while and have the windows down. It's not that bad. I do feel bad for the people behind me though haha.

The smell should only be there if you decide to remove the main under-car cat and replace with a straight pipe or muffler. If you keep the main cat, you won't notice any smell except for when you first start the car and it still has to warm up.

Just to clarify my point, if you don't want the smell keep atleast 1 cat in the exhaust stream. I went catless and couldn't stand the stink. Plus I started smoking a bit here and there without any cats.

Nice set up. (2thumbs)
You have any data logs with your present set up showing the following:
A/F ratio
Fuel pressure
Boost pressure
Knock retard
Throttle position

Thanks

You could also wait for COBB to come out with their catted downpipe. That's what I'm waiting for but I'm in no rush so I can handle the Cobb timeline (ie waiting and waiting ... and waiting).
