Unichip - are they worthwhile

I read about the Speed3 Unichip with lots of claims of horsepower and happiness by the users. Have any of you tried one of their kits and if so did it prove satisfactory? I have a 2007 Speed3 with the Speed CAI. Love the car. Want to go faster.

Research the Cobb Access Port. Same thing but much easier to use. Download preset maps according to what mods you have.

Thank you for the information. I am new to the world of Speed 3s and must confess to not knowing all of the acronyms or the benefits of each. Do you know anyone I could actually talk to that could give some guidance on the types of mods and their benefits that i could make to the car? Is there a shop that specializes in Speed 3 work?

Here is a Unichip car we tuned. The tech support at UniChip was fantastic when we spoke to them for the first time. He asked us a few questions and knew right away that we knew what we were doing. After about 10-15 minutes of giving me some tech info on it we were able to tune the car to the customer's request.

This forum's really good, actually. Just read around in the forums, and you'll start to understand a lot more. At least, that's what I did.

stay away...far away...I have unichip in my car, been in there for a year (msp). Stock tune is just bizzar, the local tuner who supposedly CAN tune them doesn't like to deal with them. ONLY if you live really close to a unichip tuner who has tuned many cars and has dyno sheets to prove it should you even think of using it. I have however actually had good luck with there tech support.

basically there HAS to be a better option.

i love my unichip... i have dual maps a stock, and 18 psi... they have maps for all the cars they tested. my car has MSpeed Cat-back, CP-e CAI. But they have had almost every sort of CAI and CB combo run through the shop. i would say do it. Unless you plan on going crazy with mods... then you may need a close tuner... Heres a link to find the closest tuner..........http://http://www.unichip.us/dealer_search_body.asp

Here is the deal with Uni-Crap. They were setup to come tune about 10 Speeds in my area. They made a deal to come down and do the installs for a set amount of cash over a 2 day period. We were told to send them a list of our mods so they could do a rough tune prior to coming.

A few days before, they backed out. They said they never said they would Tune anything, they said that we needed 50 Speeds to get the price they agreed upon prior to pulling out. I would LOVE to know where you could possibly get 50 Speeds at one location??!! They also said that a Custom Tune would cost and they would only do 1 map and not 2 as promised.

Basically they got 10 of us hyped for their product, then pulled out at the last minute. Total BS. I will never do or recommend anything from them.

Get yourself a Cobb AP. If you have mod questions, shoot me a PM and I will be happy to help you out. I have no ties to any dealer or brand. I simply use what I feel is best based off of research and not Hype. So if you want an Honest answer, shoot me a PM. If I can't answer your question, I will tell you.

Good Luck and stay the F away from Unichip.

Seems like you (peniless) are new to modding. A Cobb AP / Unichip will help you but my advice would be just research all the mods you see on these forums. You can learn everything you need and more. I would start with cheaper bolt on mods and work your way up. That way you can learn about your car and establish your long term goals. You dont want to waste 700 bucks on a unichip only to end up wishing you spent it on something else.

Good mods for starters (search forums for more info)

Cold air intake, Bypass valve, test pipe (part of exhaust), engine mounts, shifter bushings.

All those mods above are pretty cheap / easy to install and lay a solid groundwork for higher level mods.

Good Luck !

my unichip is basically a controlled Map clamp and MBC... Worth $400 it cost to get it done as one of the 1st speeds w/unichip... i live 30 mins from shop... that helped too especially if i keep upgrading... they will do custom tunes 1/2 off.. so , for me worth it... for the guys they bunked in the ass... i have heard shady stuff... but,i have nothing bad to say... i actually like what they did and how my car performs...
