Changes from 08 to 09 ms3?

:
03 Silver Protege5
My uncle is thinking about picking one up, he just needs to know what, if any, changes there are between the 08 and 09 mazdaspeed.

it's more involved than just comparing 08 to 09. it's more like comparing early 08 to 08.5 and 09 which are the same cars.

2008-earlier : interior trimmed in silver, seats cloth on sport, cloth and leather on GT. Radios do NOT play mp3 files in GT or Sport models.

2008.5 and 2009: Interior trimmed in piano black (glossy), seats are cloth on sport, leather and alcantra on GT. Radio on GT plays mp3 files burned to cd. Easily fit over 100 songs per disc.

cosmic blue and sunlight silver exterior paint options were dropped in favor of metro grey and white as of 08.5 as well.

my 08 plays burned cd's, cd's ive made from downloading files off the internet, or is it completely different.

Some other minor things: Door handles on the inside are chrome looking instead of silver, gauge needles are now white instead of red, you get a cheap Mazdaspeed sticker above the glovebox, and you get Mazda's FL22 coolant which lasts up to 120K IIRC, instead of the conventional 60K.

Those are just .WAV files, not .mp3 files. Any CD player from the last 10 years should be able to play a burned audio CD.

No man, you can burn an mp3 cd with like 180 songs on it and the MS3 GT cd player will play it no prob.

Just to clear up any confusion, there's a difference between a data CD with audio files (WAV, MP3, etc.) and a Red Book audio CD (which is a music CD you buy from a store, for example). Like camrycev6 mentioned, just about every car in the last decade will play a burned audio CD, but not many will read audio files on a burned data CD.

No sir... I was correct. An uncompressed audio data CD (.wav files) is not the same as a compressed audio data CD (.mp3 files)

The new MS3s play both. The old ones (like mine) do not.

So stuff from Limewire are not mp3's, not really tech savvy

Audio files from P2P networks (LimeWire, SoulSeek, etc) are typically MP3s. If you then take those files and burn them to as an audio disc through iTunes or Nero Burning Rom, those files will be converted to WAV format being being burned.

The big distinction here is whether the disc is burned as a data CD or an audio CDs. Audio CDs always have the tracks in WAV format, a data CD maintains the audio in its native format, ie a WAV track will be a WAV on the data CD and a MP3 will stay as a MP3.

All CD players will play audio CD, most CD players will not play an data disc.

I get it, i use nero to burn my cd's so my cd player is good enough for my usage. Thanks. So what is the advantage of keeping songs in the mp3 format? crisper sound?

09 sport plays mp3's as well

When you burn a CD, you can choose to burn the files as .mp3 or .wav or a number of other options. If you are downloading your music, the sound quality is gonna be s*** no matter what format you burn it as. Songs from a cd you rip onto your computer as a .wav file has a higher bitrate and thus better quality than an .mp3, but since the bitrate is higher, the files are bigger.

mp3 = more songs on a single cd, but crap quality
.wav = Better quality IF the songs are qood quality to start with, less songs on a single cd

I think this is highly a matter of opinion. (And for the record, I disagree with your statement about quality.) Unless you have some extremely expensive high quality sound system (and a well trained ear!) in the right listening environment (not a car), a .mp3 file with a bit rate of 192 or 256 kbps is very hard to distinguish from a standard uncompressed wave file. Don't believe me... They have done studies (see below), and in my own personal opinion, at 192 Kbps, I don't notice a signficant difference in any music I have listened too. Check it out:

First... yes, the 08.5-09 Sport CD player will play .mp3 CD's. My Zune is on the fritz right now & I am damned glad I still kept my old .mp3 CD's in the rack at home. (Zune problem is minor, but I can't fix it until my home PC gets out of the shop)

Second, a fully uncompressed .wav file (like a traditional CD) will contain more data & generally sound better than an .mp3 file. But how much better is the question. When you compress a .wav into .mp3, one of the things that happens with most compression software is that it clips the highest highs & the lowest lows from the sound register.

As Camrycev6 noted, most people won't notice this, especially in their cars, which are not optimal listening environments. Even with high end audio equipment in your car, the acoustics of most vehicles will camouflage the minor degradation of a 192/256kbps .mp3 file.

Downloading an .mp3 and converting it to .wav will NOT improve its sound quality, just like popping a VHS tape in & recording it on your DVD burner won't improve its picture quality... GIGO--- Garbage In, Garbage Out. You'll just get a high quality replica of the original low quality source.

Well said sir... well said.
