GAAAAAHHH!!!! GAAAHHH!!! (blarf)(upbum)

The words I said when they told me the 30,000 mile service would be over $600. Well that pretty much put a damper on the old bday today. :(

GAAAAAHHHh!!!!!!

WOW, what are they going to look at/actually do for this price?

WOW.....

Check you car over, change your air and air filtration filter and maybe your oil. Make sure your all the cylinders are sychronized correctly, thats about it.

My crankshaft is set to auto synchronize the cylinders.

Aside from the filters/oil...go to Pepboys/Advance auto/Autozone and pick up a can of 4cylinder compression. Add about half a can and then keep adding until you are up to about 200psi per cylinder.

30,000 Miles

* If necessary, inspect, repair, clean, adjust or replace Cooling system , Fuel lines and hoses *2 , Brake lines, hoses and connections , Disc brakes , Steering operation and linkages , Front and rear suspension, ball joints and wheel bearing axial play , Driveshaft dust boots
* Lubricate All locks and hinges
* Replace Engine oil , Engine oil filter
* Tighten Bolts and nuts on chassis and body

I have never been a fan of dealer performed services.. Either cross out s*** thats not needed, (i.e. all of it). If my bolts in my chassis and body need to be tightened.. I will have to say that's pretty bad.. but they dont so its just a scam.

600 dollars for a lookover and lubricate the locks is just crazy. I bet if they actually found something that needed to be replaced it would be on top of the 600 bucks.
Just do all that s*** either at a decent mechanic or do it yourself and keep receipts/logs of it.

I called them back an told them NOT to do the power steering fluid change and NOT to do the fuel injector service at this time - these were additional fees.

I was angry at them and got into a heated discussion with them because I told them what I asked for was 30K service not 30K plus additional work. I felt mislead what was part of the 30K service. The 30K service is approx. $380 at this location. What I was mislead on or I was simply oblivious to is that the Fuel injector and power steering services were additional $200 total not included in the 30K service.

I called up another dealer and they told me $350 for the service. Long story short I'd rather have my fuel injectors air intake manifold and valves cleaned for 90 bucks than have someone inspect my coolant level, hoeses, etc.

I wish I was more informed in advance that is my fault for not being informed. It is still a lot at $380. Wish I just let them do the damn work because I really want the crap cleaned on the inside which is recommended at 15K. I suppose I can do this on my own with some seafoam. Eitherway live and learn.

Welcome to the world of Dealer service.

I know you have learned form this and dont forget in the future to use this forum for advice on service stuff.

Sort of off-topic but what is the interval for the transmission fluid for the Speed3? I'm plenty happy with the stock fluid but wondered when it would need to be changed out. I looked in the OM and it didn't specify (that I could see anyways). On my previous WRX, I changed it out every 30K.

30k is for the Speed3 also. The dealer told me. I did mine @ 27k and the fluid was a little dark.

I wouldn't go passed 30k intervals for gear oil. If you drive your car hard, I'd change it every 15k.

Actually, I guess I'm in the minority. Been babying the Speed3 ever since I got it. I've only put 1600 miles on it since mid-August and it's been basically a "to work and home" car. I was hoping 30K interval would be OK for my driving habits. Is it 5w-30 dino oil?

yes... in the end though I'm more angry at myself because I didn't stop to question i was in too much of a morning rush I should have because I brought it to a new dealer today one that is closer to where i work and have had heard good things about. Shame on me (deadhorse

Change it if you are tracking maybe. Also, the power steering fluid should be good for at least 100k. I always laugh when they ask me about that at the 30k check up. Not much warranty left, best to have the documentation that they at least looked at it. I have 23k on already, only a year old.

Wow, the Inspection II(major) service on my wife's X3 was only $424-at the dealer-and that included a brake fluid flush as well as the repair of a curbed wheel.

No as bad as my buddies 25K mile checkup for his M3. $1600 to flush coolant, brakes, steering. plus adjust the valves. talk about Big Money Waster (BMW)
