questions on not running recirc

You are free to do what you wish, but our car was not designed to run VTA and that is why it backfires like crazy due to running rich between shifts. You need to tune for VTA and right now only the SB can do that.

Also, due to the ECU being smart, I have some concern of the ECU trying (and failing) to adjust for the constant rich state between shifts causing a de-tune of the car resulting in lost HP.

I say this based off of seeing 2 MS3 that ran VTA putting down lower than expected numbers. Now it might be just a coincidence or it might not be. It's my own personal theory.

so what bov/bpv run recirc? i am thinking of picking up a forge bpv, but what else are my options?

HKS has a recirculation attachment if you want to spend a lot of money. I personally have the Forge unit and am pretty happy with it.

can someone explain what "back fire" is? is it those loud popping sound from the muffler and from the back it looks like the muffler is sparking?

Popping from the exhaust. That's all it means in this application. Just means you're running really rich (again, for what we're talking about here). The thing that keeps me running VTA is the jerk between shifts, poor idle, and stalling. Just not worth it for a bit of sound.
