Just got my 2009 Speed3!

Hello all,

Wanted to drop in and say hi now that I actually own a Speed3. I picked up a Grand Touring in CWP last Tuesday, and have loved the car so far!

I ended up getting free tint too (dealer put it on after I said not to, and when he said I would have to pay for it anyways, I refused. Thus, free tint! (yippy))

I also thought it was funny on the test drive how the dealer told me the speed3 has a perfect 50/50 weight distribution (lol) I'm sure other automakers would love to know how a FWD platform has 50/50 weight distribution

Only mods I really plan right now are shifter bushing, motor mounts, and a SRI whenever one becomes available. I'm in Dallas, TX area and I don't trust floods around here, so forget a CAI!

Welcome to the forums. Congrats on the new 09 and its in the best color of them all. The mods you want to do will get you started in the right direction. May I recommend that you do the motor mount first. It's the easiest and the cheapest of them.

i think the 50/50 he was thinking was measured in front of the front wheel and behind the front wheel. that's probably around 50/50 hhah

welcome and good break on the tint. if it wasnt for my mgm i would of gotten the cwp but good choice my man. enjoy i would also consider a new rear engine mount whle your at it and again welcome and enjoy. take it easy.

Thanks all. After driving almost a week now, I'm convinced I NEED TWM shifter bushings!! I thought I could get used to the shifter, but it just feels so sloppy to me unless I shift really slowly. Kinda bothers me that I can "feel" the syncros (sp) a tid bit (of course the clutch is as far down as it can go).

Maybe you trying to throw gears around too agressively? I usually dont feel resistance when shifting but it does feel mushy. If im going 60 mph and try to throw it in 2nd . . . the car wont let me (resists quite a bit).

lol...that's a voided warranty hahaha. j/k i think that for the first 25mi be easy, then after that drive it like you intend to drive it for it's life.

My very first mod also.

Get a Forge BPV to go with the intake. The stock BPV = junk.

gratz on your new ride!! go for the TWM STS/Bushing combo!! Don't worry about the weighted shift knob, it feels about as heavy as the stock knob...so yeah... just my thoughts though. Have fun!

Yes, before my first oil change I had the CS inserts and TWM bushings done. I think those are shoud've come from the factory type mods.

Agreed. There's no reason why the stock rear mount should be that soft. I get next to no vibes from my CorkSport MMI.

Turbo idle question

quick question and figured I would bump an old thread rather than create a new one...

The manual suggests letting your engine idle for 20-30 seconds after "racing or driving uphill for an extended period of time" and since I am weary of turbo engines, I let it idle 30+ seconds, everytime.

Is this overkill? It takes me almost a minute to drive through my entire apartment lot ( I live in the back + tons of speed bumps), and never engage the turbo (keep revs below 2500 usually).

I feel like I'm wasting time and fuel by letting my car idle if the turbo was never really engaged in the last few minutes anyways. Being as I am however, I always like to play it on the safe side, but I think it could be over kill right now.

I'm with you -- my last few minutes of my commute are usually just putterin' along. I don't let mine idle down at that point. I just shut it off. Now when I get home, that's a different kettle o' fish.

I have to wonder -- why are you weary of turbo motors? It isn't that much of a problem to just let it idle for a few minutes when necessary. Fortunately for me, I'm in a house. I just let mine idle with the hood up for a few minutes, then shut it off. I close the hood a couple of hours later. I still find it weird it takes so long for an aluminum engine to cool off. My Ram doesn't take that long!
