MS3 - Difficult to get into 1st & 3rd

I have a new 2008.5 mazdaspeed 3, and I find sometimes it's hard to get it into first gear, it's like it gets stuck, even when I'm at a stand still. As for the third gear, when I'm at a stand still, I run it thru the gears, and the third gear makes a tick right at the end. First and fifth make the same noise, but not as loud. What could be the problem?

unless its something REALLY unusual you're probably experiencing the norm. I suggest searching information regarding Shifter bushings or new motor mount and you'll notice threads of people talking about the shifting improvement of exactly 1-3. Your tranny is most likely fine.

sounds like your synchros are rubbing a little bit more than they should as you shift into gear. this could mean that you are low on trannie oil, but i'd be more inclined to believe that it just needs a little breaking in. does this only happen when the trannie is cold? you can have an engine that's up to operating temp, but still have a cold trannie...so just drive the car around for a while (5 miles) and then see if this happens...=d

Is this your first car you are driving that is a stick? First gear is a problem on many cars to engage. Nothing abdnormal, just keep the clutch down, throw it into 2nd and than right back into 1st, it will slide perfectely. Our transmissions make some sounds, but it doesn't seem likeanything you have to worry about.

btw...all trannies make sounds when you shift...try shifting on any manual trannie car with the engine off, and you will hear clicking and clanking as you row through the gears.

No, It's not my first, but it's been 5 years since I've driven one. I usually throw it into 2nd first when I'm downshifting, but let me check to see if it only happens when I don't.

Is it supose to to make the same nosie while the engine is running?

ya, but it's not loud, so you'll have a much harder time hearing it with the engine rumbling away...that's why i say to do this with the engine off...=d

I wasn't trying to knock you about you driving a stick, i was just wondering if you had any experience.

My third gear is pretty loud too, so it's not just you.

btw...here's a thought: what kind of modding have you done? if you just happen to have disturbed the area around the shifting assembly in the engine bay, it's possible that you pushing something (hose, etc.) into the path of the shifting assembly as it rows through the gears.

the assembly is located roughly underneath the stock airbox.

No mods done, straight off the boat... I had first notice the noise in 3rd gear when I was asking someone about the tranny noise in neutral without pressing the clucth, and told him it was also hard to shift, as I rowed thru the gears I heard it, you can clearly hear it over the engine (but the tranny was cold). People are telling this might be normal, I'm going to try this exercise with the tanny warm & and engine running to see if it is as loud. As for first gear, I'm going to try to make sure I down shift all the way and not go form 4th to 1st as the car stops.

what region you outta? maybe you can hear someone elses tranny vice versa...

Sounds like what mine did, I thought it was just me getting used to drive a stick after 4 or 5 years without one. Let a buddy drive it and it did it too, it's been around a month since I brought the car home and I don't notice it anymore. I either got used to it, or it's been worn in enough to not do it anymore.
