Lamin-X Headlight Protection

Wanted to hear from members who have this. I just installed the yellow Lamin-x this past weekend for the fog lights and am very satisfied with the quality and look of them - just gotta wait for the hazing/foggy look to disappear. That got me thinking about the headlights. My MS3 has 9,800 miles and there are some scratches and nicks on the headlights already. Wondering if the $50 would be a worthwhile investment for the headlights. I've seen too many headlights after years of owenrship get that yellow hazing. Wondering if the Lamiin-x clear film would protect the lenses from doing that. I know it would do a good job of protecting it from nicks and scratches.

If you have the patience to install one, go for it. I have it on mines and it was a PITA to install.

That's what I was afraid of. The fog ones were pretty easy with a flatter surface and all. How long have you had it? Is it holding up OK?

if it's anything like putting on a clear bra, then the curves will suck in putting it on. hopefully, i'll get my headlight lamin-x tomorrow and put on soon.

I've had it for a few months. It's holding up good, and I have it for the peace of mind. Just take your time when installing it, the curves of the headlight is what's gonna piss you off the most.

headlight haze and yellowing is inevitable.

the UV rays and heat break down the outer layers of plastic over time. However it can be simply fixed by having the headlights polished properly with a machine polisher, proper polish, and proper pads. also keeping your headlights regularly waxed (a sealant is better because it be much more durable than a carnuba wax) will reduce the amount of road grime that will get stuck to your lamp. Road grime is another cause of headlight hazing.

LaminX will help with the rock chips, but i dont think it does anything for heat and UV rays

NCZ, what pads and polish have you had success with? UDM + SIP + 4" lo-pro orange w/3.5" bp didn't do squat for me. 3401's too big to use on the headlights.

i got mine on the second week i had my car.... i didnt put it on myslf a buddy at the tint place did.... it took him not even 3 mins with the sheet of yellow and they are holding up like a champ! heres some pics.

ive been pretty successful with a 5.5 orange w/ Menz PG
then follow with a 5.5 white with menz FP, or XMT1 which has a very long working time.

i find that PG will flash, and doesnt have a very long working time, so i make sure to moisten the pad with some ONR lube, and get the most out of the polish.

Ive also found that XMT3 is pretty good on headlights too. but i always follow with a finishing polish. because a medium cut, or even a compound will leave some hazing behind, even on plastic.

Did a search on Plexus. It's a plastic cleaner, protectant, and polish. How often would you use this? Can you get it locally or have to order online? It's pretty expensive online.

LMAO...damn, I don't have any Menz PG. Maybe I'll try the SystemOneX3 with a PFW pad using the 3401...but I may not have a headlight anymore afterwards. Seriously though, thanks. I may have to see if any of the local DB members can spare an ounce or two of Menz PG.

Well, I use it on my Ventureshield clear bra maybe once a month, depending on the amount of bugs that have attached themselves to the film. But I try to keep a layer of sealant on my film (Duragloss 105 or Collinite 845; both very durable sealants and both MUCH cheaper than Zaino; Collinite can be picked up locally from Harbor Freight) so I don't end up using the Plexus too much. I've not seen it locally, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist locally where you are. So far the one can of Plexus I bought earlier this year has lasted me this whole summer and I have 3/4 of the can left. But whenever I place a detailing order, it's for a number of products.

Heh, instead of picking up some LaminX or similar headlight protection, I bought a Cobb RSB instead
