Cool, I see a lot of different cars and makers, plus a lot of mod bug in few of them (naughty)

Yeah, I also keep the cars quite long nowadays, especially as I have not put many miles on them lately (and because of a "slight" change on priorities, LOL)

What up with all those ugly rides jeebusm3? J/k really cool rides man...

Good stuff guys, keep it coming!

I love cars. I just love them. I almost bought a BMW 540i 6spd this weekend, but my wife convinced me not to because baby #2 is less than a month away and we should probably be smart with money instead of stupid. Which, as you can see by some of the cars I've had, and their mods, I am not always "smart" with money when it comes to cars.

I have loved all of my cars is their own unique way. The only car I didn't ever love was the Audi. I bought it because I thought my M3 deserved better than downtown daily driving and parking each day. After 1 month of owning the car, I was so bored driving a car with an automatic, that I sold it.

My most controversial car, was the Forester. I had owned my M3 for 3 years, and modded it just the way I wanted it, then I decided to sell it and I showed up at my BMW buddy's house with this:

He looked at me like I was the craziest person alive. He had no idea what on earth I was thinking or was planning. Nor did he understand the potential of the car.

A month later, I showed up at his house and it looked like this...

He was starting to understand. Then I took him for spin. He was sold.

If Forester XT's weren't so friggen expensive, we'd be driving one of those instead of our 5. I just couldn't justify nearly $10k over what we paid for our 5 to get a smaller car. A much faster smaller car, but smaller none the less.

I didn't have time to post pics before, but here's my Jetta:

Not much sense in posting a picture of our 5. You guys all know what bone stock silver 5 looks like. :D

Wow, sold as well, screw the bimmers, LOL. That bus "fart" note is awesome, plus fast too. I love the car in the way back, if you don't see the edit it is like: "WTH, how did he u-turn that fast?"

Anyway, I hear you, my priorities have changed as well, but at least with the MZ5s I have not given up everything wrt. drive fun. Not the fastest, but really engaging for a car that price...

I paid $24k for my '06 Forester XT, brand-new. It had leather and a sunroof and the changer, etc. Every option but the AT.

That's not that much more than a Grand Touring Mazda5. But the Mazda is a much better family car. The Forester was a nice, fast, and the AWD was nice. Back seat was small as crap though.

I used to be a Car-O-Holic. I forced myself into leasing to prevent me from trading so often. So far so good. First lease ended perfectly and onto the second with my 08 GT. I tend to buy non "popular" cars as I hate seeing myself come and go.

1988 Lincoln Continental (my parents wanted me to have a big car)
1994 Saturn SL2 (back when Saturns were pretty good cars)
1996 Saturn SC2 (Had it for 20 days, returned under 30 day money back)
1996 Ford Explorer (had it for 2 months, traded for below)
1997 Saturn SC2 (New body style! kept it 4 years...a record!)
1998 Cadillac Catera (nice when it ran...horrible service cost!)
2003 Toyota Matrix (kept it 2 years I think)
2005 Acura TSX (a full 3 year lease, traded it for a Mazda5 with the $1500 equity I had in it...leasing can work for the better)
2008 Mazda5 GT

My wife was embarrassed when people noticed my "FARTBUS" emblem I created (using Subaru and Forester letters that I removed)

It was very quick. With the short gearing, smallish turbo on a large 4cyl, and a few mods, that AWD would launch the car quicker than just about anything. At least for a while. The stock turbo ran out of breath a bit up top. Car and Driver managed to run 13.7 in the quarter mile, stock. I only ran a 14.2 when I was stock, but I'm not awesome I guess. I still beat a 350z, an M3, and a c4 vette while I was there that day. (thumb)

We were looking at a Sports XT. With my discount (Subaru VIP program) and the options I wanted, we were looking at just shy of $27k. We got our 5 for $18k IIRC after discount (Mazda S Plan).

Mind you I'm from Canada.

Current:
His:
2008 Mazda 5 GT/leather
1993 Honda Del Sol 5mt
2000 Honda Civic SE
1986 Subaru GL Wagon (great car, if not for the rust I might still be driving it)
1984 Plymouth Horizon (gave to me from a friend)
1994 Ford Escort
199x Fiat something or something else (can't and don't care to remember)

Her:
2000 Honda Civic SE *got it from him, this car just won't die

I still miss the del sol, but the new ride (Mazda 5) has 3 times the number of seats so ...

I got a better deal than you could get through VIP, lol. The Sports wasn't out in '06, but what I bought (the limited) cost more than the sports anyway. Of course, I ended up putting the JDM grill on because I HATED the stock grill and right after I did that, Subaru up and comes out with the Sports model that had basically the same grill.

We got our 5 for $18.5k (Touring 5 speed)

I mean no serious offense by this...but I am seeing a trend of lots of boring cars. The Mazda5 being one of the MOST exciting in many of your fleets.

Well, the problem with Forester's is if you want a freakin sunroof... Don't know if yours had one or not, but by the time I added a sunroof, rear spoiler, & compass mirror I was looking at $26,8. I have a good relationship with our Subaru dealer and he was going to give me $4k for that POS caravan we had, but even with that, we could get the numbers to where I wanted them to be.... I would have had to drain my entire savings account for a down payment to reach my monthy goal. Just wasn't in the cards.

I didn't have to put anything towards the Mazda and with a measly $1200 trade for the van we met our goal... Not to mention now that we have it, my wife loves the car even more than our old Forester so it alll worked out in the end. I just wish the 5 had about 75 more HP and it would be perfect.

Ok

Current:
08 Mazda5 Touring (hers)
03 Protege5 (mine)

Past:
Mine- 93 chevy lumina euro 4 door (3.1L)

Thats pretty much it. I own cars for a long time.

Mine had the sunroof. It was a ridiculously large sunroof. You couldn't even open it up all the way at speed or else it was turbulence city.

And I'm with ya on many of those arguments. When I bought my Forester, the wife and I both worked and had a relatively affordable mortgage. Then we moved back to San Diego and decided one of us would stay home and consult part-time. So...less income plus more expenses...paired with the fact that the Forester was a giant mod-addiction. No other car made me want to mod it more. And the relatively weak gas mileage (I got around 18 city/22 hwy). So I said goodbye to the car. Which is why my fun car is now a 20 year old BMW. It's cheap to own, insure, and repair (if you work on it yourself lol) It's also uber reliable, has a bigger back seat than the forester, and can drift a lot better.

^^ I was not expecting that Ogre, pretty cool none the less (thumb)

I see several members who previously owned Chevys with the old but classy 2.8L or 3.1L MPFI. Nice engine, not too much HP but very decent torque and sound note...

I also see VWs (no wonder vw mofo as the forum name), one of my favorite car brands from the past. As listed, I owned 2 of them, same year and even color (that was a coincidence, I admit). Nothing would beat those things, except heavy rain (yeah, it was still a carb engine and its design would let the engine get water from anywhere) and the lack of 5th gear at 160km/hr (lol2)

Found this video. Music kind of sucks, but loved that car, good memories...
