Don't hate me. It was just an accident, I am not sure how they did it.
When I ordered my 08 mazda5 , it wasn't suppose to show up like three month later (White GT, leather, standard, rare at the time).
All the suddently the salesman call me and told me my 5 had arrived after 3 week of waiting. His explaination was, someone ordered the same package I was then cancel the order. The car actually came from BC, Vancouver. My first reaction was rush to the dealer and check out my new mazda5. It turn out to be the leather seat was black, I quickly question the dealer, are you sure this is GT model? (cause there is a little print out still sitting on the dash shown SPORT Mazda5 2008. He checked the vin , and told me yeap, it is the GT model. It really bother me cause if I was correct (someone correct me), the SPORT Model only available for US and it is the bottom of the line and it doesn't come standard with power sunroof, bluetooth, heated leather seat. It make me look so bad, when I was picking up my 5. I ask so many question, and almost, almost did the full interior , exterior inspection ( Took me an hour ). The funny thing, my dealer doesn't even know how the 2008 mazda5 came with black interior.

that dealer is not too bright.. in the middle of 08 model, mazda decided to have the option of sand leather or black leather for mazda 5. it was thru email to the general manager/sales manager from what i know. i believe the code for black leather is CC5.

what happen is when they order car thru the computer system, the manager there wasn't paying attention to the interior code, so they just click click click.

and all the car comes from BC vancouver, that's where the ship land from japan.. =P

Thats an awesome looking 5, id kill (maybe a small animal probably not a human) for a white 5 with those options :-)

Good choice!

Its still canada, black leather is a fun idea. In the summer just put a seat cover on the front seats, or maybe your funniest tshirt. Seats with tshirts on them rule!

It was 42 degree celius here in Toronto a few weeks ago... thats very hot enough to kill people seriously.

Anyway, we ordered a RED/Light Color Leather Interior...

Called dealer today - expect one more month hahahaha, which we had just waited 3 weeks already.

Japanese cars will soon to conquerer the auto industry... think electronics...

No regretting trading our Benz for it, which we love it so much.

Would be cool to chill more with you guys...

Nice to meet you all folks...

Hey derstar,
I see that you're from Toronto and that you are waiting for a RED/Light colour Leather! I am in the same boat. Dealer says by the end of July. My original choice was White, but apparently they're all gone. Red was available but have to ship from Japan.
I found a couple of forum postings of Mazda 5 with modify exhaust. I wanted to do it too. But one of them removed their modify exhaust and put the original one back on, because he got lower gas mileage. So now I am iffy on trying to increase the HP of the Mazda5.

So in the US you can't get the manual tranny on anything other than the Sport and you can't get the Moonroof on the Sport??

WTH??

Awesome car!!

Although I gotta ask, what's the appeal with having a family vehicle in a manual? You'd think it'd be less smooth for the kids and family?

Well, there is at least one member here with a 2008 Mazda5 Touring WITH 5MT (in the US). I say the Mazda USA web site is not accurate. Also, according to the site, the 2008 Sport w/ 5MT could not have the Popular Package, and I got one WITH it. I also found in autotrader.com several Touring 5MT around March/April 08 (but too late for me)...

In summary, do not trust the Mazda site specs, just browse around in the inventories around your area, there should be something around...

That made the difference for wife and I when buying a car, there is no need of letting go fun for comfort if you really know how to drive manual

But anyway, I get your point, it is a small market who wants that on a people mover I presume (I'm glad they do in my case)

Because even if you do decide to haul ass, it's not gonna be smooth, or that incredibly fast either. So in a way, there isn't much fun to be had you'd think? I didn't like driving the caliber srt-4, it seemed like a van, you were high up and shifting.

To me fun does NOT mean fast. I cannot care less if I beat a Hyundai off the traffic light (plus with my kid, I do even care less). As per smooth, if you drive a Mazda5 with MT, you'll see what I'm talking about. It is not ricer cool, but very smooth and with great gear to RPM ratio

Plus, I dunno where you are originally from, but from where wife and I are (different countries by the way), you need to learn how to drive with MT, there is no way around. For wife also means complete control of the car, which I agree with.

In other words, I believe your perception of fun to drive is not the same as wife and I perception (drive)
