SO.

Im sick of all these threads calling our cars weak unreliable POS's.

I figured ide kinda give a nice example of just how "unreliable and weak" our cars are.

Firstly..this is something done by me, knowing consequences etc...BUt i did it anyway.

Basically its a list of things that have happend to the car and things i have done with the car while these things were wrong.

1. Didnt change my oil for 10.1k miles. During this time, i absolutely destroyed multiple very tuned and modded vehicles. Other mazdas, modded hondas, a subaru, and some other random cars here and there.

Mind u this all was on twisty roads (our cars are slow) and mine is Stock except for a short ram and some g-force tires.

2. I had virtually no front brake pads (to prove the stopping power of the stock brakes) the rear brakes do an amazing job.

3. 2 broken motor mounts. (for more than 6 months)

4. Blown front drivers side strut

5. Some other wierd noises i dont understand and have never heard on a car.

I have also taken the car on a very rugged very hardcore off-road course near a lake. It was on a primitive road at speeds of around 50mph (dirt) at night.

Meanwhile i hadnt changed my driving habits at all, I still drove the hell out of the car, I stomped on it all the time, flew it around corners, and gunned it in the rain.

The car never showed me any signs of weekness. It is strong and reliable.

Any doubts should be settled here.

So being able to beat on it while all those things are broken makes it reliable...? That kinda doesn't make any sense at all.

everyones missing the point.....

Not everyone single car made of the same model will be as reliable as the others made..some people just get the s*** end of the stick...Ive maintained my car like every driver should who values thier car....If you take care of your car it wil take care of you

True but with me the more I beat on it the longer it seems to last with all of my previous cars. However its proper maintance that keeps the cars running long, but like you stated you some times get a lemon.

I drove my P5 like I stole it, but kept all maintenece up to date. Never any problems through 40000, and enjoyed every mile. If I didn't love my car now so much, I would really miss my lil red wagon.

^ mine is, works fine for me, afraid if I start treating is nice, it'll break...

3. 2 broken motor mounts. (for more than 6 months)

What signs led you to find broken motor mounts? Wondering if part of my rough idle might be some bad mounts...

As for the original topic, lol...

ha... I may have to keep this for posterity... should your car find its way to the classifieds (lol2)

The whole point of it was a personal test to see what the car could stand up to.

I figured ide post it as some sort of way to instill confidence?

I dunno really..I just know its the best car ive owned and stands up to alot of beating.

My car has 87k miles btw, so its not exactly brand new.

anyway.. i just want people to feel good about their cars, and not feel like its the worst car they have ever bought.

Previous to this test, I have driven the car hard as hell since the day i bought it, But i did do rigorous maintnence on it.

Ovearll, this post didnt have like some crazy point.

As for the guy that doesnt believe me. Thats kool dude, watever..Its the internet...BUt why would i make this up?

I'm at 148,000 miles with the original timing belt. I think at this point I'll just wait 'till it breaks just to see how long you can actually go. Oh yeah, no other problems except the broken motor mounts. That's better than all of the Civics I've had.

it is called car maintenance, i also forget to change my oil, and sometimes im to lazy to change my brake and my motor mounts a s*** too and i have all four sturts blown out..and i own a VW...and i redline it every day of every sec..first gear only see 6000 rpm..so does second, why, because my car has no power...but lucky, my engine only burns a little oil..fill her up and shes good again..
and it still handles like a dream....i also autoX my golf thur the local canyon....but enough about me, i dont want to jack your thread...lol..(headbang)(friday)

I have NO knowledge whatsoever about any engines but there's what I had trouble with my current and last car.
owned 1 year. 50000 to 75000km.1999 cavalier z24:
that engine was total s***, that 2.4L. u open it a few times and:
head works, warped, replaced under warranty(got very lucky, had to fight, total cost over 1000$CA).
2003 pro ES.bought at 53000 and now at 73000KM
redlining a lot, np with head, or oil.
alternator gone after 1 month of using 1 small amp and a cheesy 12in sub.
wheel bearing front replaced.
Motor mounts are done with.
front/real link kits replaced.
front/rear brakes replaced.
EGR replaced.
owned the z24 for 1 year, same with the mazda.
Seems to me chevy builds everything strong BUT engines(assuming the 199x ones...)..
and mazda's engine been more than GREAT for me, but everything else falling appart....
don't quote this as a mazda hater, I LOVE my mazda and would never go back, just stating my experience. got both cars used so you never know how abused they were before I got them.
