ebay fmic anyone?

bought it all off ebay? if you dont mind me askin how much was it. im on a 19yr old budget with my msp and i see universal fmic kits for like 300 just wondering if anyone tried this set up. how hard is it to install

Personally, I would save my money for a quality, proven setup. Just don't be surprised if you order this "universal" kit and either A) nothing fits or B) massive work is requred to make things fit.

yea, your right, i had a buddy luck out with universal piping for his 1.8t jetta and it made me curious if i would luck out also but i probably am better off just saving money for one.

Some guys have used universal here I believe that had to order an extra bend and or coupler. If you search the board people have talked about them and whch ones to get. CXRacing makes decent s***. If you look at the ION set-up I believe there's used a bunch of couplers and regular bends to get the job done, might want to model after that one

i have been doing some research on this subject and am planning to purchase this setup

or somthing like it. remember you are probably going to run a bov only (unless you want to weld a nipple on the hot pipe). if you do run bov only then you will have to relocate your maf to the cold pipe. it must be in between the throttle body and the bov in order for it to work. there are plenty of threads on this matter. the point is do alot of estimating and guessing on which bends you are going to need and how much and esimate where exactly you are going to want couplers and if you are going to need reducers(most likely and i think you can pick up extra couplers at the hardware store?? idk) and where you are going to route it.

just my 2 cents

man if i were you guys i would wait and get a good cheep one off the for sale section, i am 18 and i got my MAM fmic for less than 550 bucks.

you get what you pay for...

that may be true but im not sure if all you guys are like 30 year olds making 6 digit salaries but most of us arent and we cant afford things like 800 dollar fmic or unichips or forged internals or other upgrades that are crazy expensive. we gotta take what we can get. if i ever took the advice of buying the better more expensive thing my account would be depleted right now.

im just saying, you know?

There are certain things you don't want to skimp on. But instead of trying to buy everything quickly. If you don't have the $$ take it slow and build it right. It's a bigger waste of money to have to buy the same type of product twice, because you went cheap the first time. Just be keen to the for sale section and you'll find a good deal.

lol i doubt anyone on here is making 6 figure salaries...if they were they wouldnt be driving a protege Im sure...

Whats the difference in saving money for a high quality product versus throwing less money at a bad product? I'd rather not waste my money on s***....

You know...?

(werd) dont buy crap just to have it faster....save your money and if you cant afford it then maybe you dont need it (dunno)

if you want to build a piece of s*** car go right ahead.

just because you can buy a part for cheap on eBay doesn't mean you should. there is a reason brand name parts and kits are more expensive. I have yet to see an "eBay special" car that is well built.

save your money. no one here is rich, but if you're smart and spend your money wisely on quality parts... you can have a nice car too.

If you cannot afford to do something correctly, then don't do it. Save your money until you can. Think about it--if you cheap out and break something major, did you really save any money?

thanx for all the info guess your all right save my money til i can afford a good quality product. its so tempting when you see an ebay fmic for 200 vs 900 for a quality one ya no. but ill use y head on this one since its my first really good condition car that i can keep for a while.
