Blew up my speed6

Did it really need a new motor? My dad's hydrolocked his old blazer driving across a creek and I've hydrolocked my old sebring (clogged drain on the interstate) No CAI in either of these. But anyhow, we were able to get both of these vehicles running again with no issues. We took the spark plugs out, turn the motor a good bit to get any water out of the cylinders, changed all the fluids for good measure to make sure there was no water there. Hydrolock doesn't automatically mean "new motor".

typically it means piston through side of block. not always though, you are correct.

main thing is that if you do stall in water, TURN OFF YOUR CAR AND DO NOT TRY TO RESTART IT!
you will need to do as mordant80 says and replace the plugs, change the oil, etc.

Piston through block? Why? I have never heard of this. Been wrenching on boats for years and have seen hundreds of hydro locked motors and none ever blew a cylinder or anything like that. I have seen them not run the same again but usually as listed above, getting all water out (which is fun as when you crank it over with no plugs in the water shoots out like a canon)and changing all fluids (more than once usually). Not sure with the turbo though what that would do and where the water could go that it absolutely shouldnt...

flightmedic - yes they make SRI's for the speed 6 and regular 6. i have a regular 6. AEM made mine. friends of mine have the COBB SRI for their speed6's.

i know its not the most reliable source on the web...but here is what wikipedia says about hydrolock

a member here blew his up

from a very knowledgeable member here

hydrolock generally causes piston and rod damage. The engine "inhales" water, this enters the engine via the intake valve.....

again, you're not going to know for sure until you pull it down.

you asked for an opinion - in my opinion, its going to be rod and/or piston damage.

Lift the head, drop the crank, have a look....

I have tried simply closing up the vent holes, but you can feel a significant decrease in engine performance, I guess from the lack of air. So I bought the hydroshield from Injen and it is not restrictive. The Injen hydroshield really works great and as an added bonus keeps your filter cleaner longer and is cheap! Sorry (deadhorse) I know

An SRI is definately the best answer.... but the hydroshield is cheaper.

well to follow up what i said earlier i got the tape put it on the inside of the slits in the fender..we had some good rain today here in RI so i pushed the car alot more then usuall i took the bumper off just alittle while ago and the filter was dry as a bone... only costed me 4 dollars and alittle bit of work..

CAI & Speed3, Speed6

Flightmedic,
Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Good luck with its remedy!
It has been really monsoon-y around here for weeks, for sure.
Is this issue (possible hydrolock) as common to Speed3s as it seems to be to Speed6s?
Think I'll get an Injen hydroshield for my CAI & hope it's not too restrictive.
How is your dealer behaving? And who are they?

No clue about the speed3. I would imagine if the intake sits in the wheel well like on the 6 then it is very possible. Dealer is behaving like a dealer. Not gonna be covered on the warranty and its gonna cost 10 grand for a new engine.

sorry to hear about your car dude! when you get ger up and running you gotta hook up with other NE guys!

Contact your insurance company, this might be covered. I know many have had this happen and insurance pays.

yup. it would be a comp or collision claim, and may have to be coded as an at fault accident, which would raise your rates, but would be covered (minus deducible of course)
