Modified Mag - The Mazdaspeed 3 catapults this muscular little 5-door hatchback to the exalted position of the most powerful FWD production vehicle ever built.

sounds pretty sporty to me

caliber srt4 ring a bell?

285 > 263

haha.

18" > 19"

that ones a little tougher to prove mathematically, but yea, id much rather have the 18s. especially when it comes time to buy new tires. its also nice to know there are numerous 17s that will fit when my winter beater dies and it comes time to throw snow shoes on it.

well, i just meant in terms of weight. i'm pretty sure those 19s on the caliber are heavy as s***.

plus it looks like a dump truck.

Not even close. To me, only a handful of doorslammers are sports cars, and none of them are race cars.

The MS3 is a station wagon with a turbo. That doesn't mean I enjoy it any less, but you can't make chicken soup out of chicken s***.

But you can make chicken s*** soup.. which, btw, I heard was hella good.

Just to confirm, the SRT-4 will never be a sports car, because of the way it looks; right?

HOW ARE YOU GETTING 26 MPG IN "REGULAR" DRIVING? (boom05)

sorry about the delay, never saw your post before.

anyway, there really isnt much traffic here. on my way to work, i have to stop at a couple stop signs and a few lights, but theres not too much stop and go driving for me. its the acceleration that kills your mileage. depending on my mood, i'll boost out of a stop, but once i hit speed, i drop it down to a gear that allows me to cruise at 2k - 2.5k rpm. you can really push some extra mpg if youre smart about it, without even sacrificing much fun. really its as much of a factor of where i drive as it is how i drive. im sure when i go back to my place at school in downtown binghamton, my mileage will suffer a bit.

btw, my daily driving includes no highway driving either. and by highway i mean on-ramp limited access roads. i do drive short stretches on 55 mph roads, but theyre all 2 laners.

If nissan consider their maxima 4dsc and general public considered maxima as one before, there is absolutely no reason why ms3 shoudnt be considered sports car.
No, mazdaspeed3 is not the traditional sports car by definition but definition of sports car has been changed over the years and many different variation of sports car came out of it.

People of different age, body shape, sex, race, height competes in sports.
Atheletes compete in sports
therefore People of different age, body shape, sex, race, height are athletes.

Mazdaspeed3 is track tuned from the factory. (claimed by mazda)
autosports are held at the track and closed courses (autox)
sports car are tuned to handle and perform well on track and closed courses.
Therefore mazdaspeed 3 is a sports car tuned to handle and compete in autosports.

Car was built with multiple purposes and one of the purpose is to compete in autosports.

The Maxima long ago lost the mantle of 4dsc, It doesn't even come with a manual trans anymore, much less a DSG style trans. It's got a CVT trans which while efficient and great at what it does kills any shadow it had of reclaiming that title.

Its a sporty sedan to be sure, but like the MS3, not a sports car.

I just love how you make your statements so matter of factly.

Thanks! It takes a certain talent :)

But really, it's my opinion, not a fact. Everyone on here is stating opinions, it's an internet forum for petes sake and I have not showed up on your doorstep and demanded that you conform to my opinion so until I do that (which I never will in this matter) you're free to believe the MS3 is the second coming of the veyron if you'd like. Doesn't make it so.

Also, the insurance is charging you sports car weights because the MS3 is a sporty and fast car prone to be bought by young people who they (the ins company) think will promptly go wrap them around a tree because us young men are reckless speed demons.

I can strap a JATO rocket to my BMX bike and I guarantee you my insurance company will want to charge me an arm and a leg to insure that too.

This is all just hysterical; it's a sports car because your insurance company says so?

If I'm paying for sports car INS rates, fuel economy, etc it might as well be considered a damn sports car as far as I'm concerned. Besides there's no clear definition as to what a sports car is or is not so this whole thread is "Hysterical" Besides, who actually gives a damn if it's labeled a "sports car" anyway? What does it matter? You're right, it doesn't.

You seem to care because you're taking this awful personal. Just sayin. I'm envious. I wish I had an MS3. Someone could call is a boat for all I care, I'd be to happy driving it to notice.

You are not paying for sports car "fuel economy." You are not paying sports car insurance rates. You are not paying for the upkeep of a sports car.

If you had a sports car you would have to pay Best Buy to deliver your new lap top. You would not have baby seat hooks. You would get less than ~25 mpg highway. You would not do grocery runs in your Mazdaspeed3.

This debate is hilarious because it's a debate about definition. The problem is, there has been a working definition of what a sports car is that has been used by automotive enthusiasts for nearly a century. People are trying to redefine "sports car" to justify labeling their ride as something it's not.

I'm not trying to justify s*** so I'm not sure why you quoted my post. I could give a damn if what I drive is or is not considered a "sports car" We could go thru one million pages on this topic and the outcome would still be the same. Pointless.

P.S. People also go on grocery runs in their Porsche 911's BTW.

I quoted your post because you made the ridiculous claim that you pay "sports car insurance" and "sports car fuel economy." You have no idea what you're talking about. You could be paying more. Much, much, much more.

I see no reason to redefine what a sports car is simply so I can tell myself my car is something it isn't. You disagree. Good on you, I guess.
