built 3071r big turbo build up

No deception on the things you did yet? Everything going great?
This is an awesome thread, good job man!

BTW, Have you tried to let MAZDA honor the warranty when your first engine blew? I mean after removing all your aftermarkets parts? or it was your plan to upgrade that DISI engine that way?

still in one piece over here. looks like the 3071r is blown so I'll be going bigger. The hot side fins were bent up a bit from little pieces of metal going out the exhaust and through the wheel.

I'm putting on a stock turbo on Friday and I'll be driving the car around like that for awhile, which is fine with me. Going bigger is definitely not a drawback. Afterall, I've already replaced everything on the motor except the turbo. 3076r here I come - my personal favorite. The only reason I stuck with a 3071r was because I didn't wanna blow up. lol.

When I blew up I wasn't in my home town, actually 200 miles away in Oklahoma (I live in Texas) and I had the big turbo on there, as well as a ghetto inlet pipe at the time. They popped the hood and shut it pretty much instantly.

I was going to go forged anyways, and I already needed a new clutch at the time, so its all good. I probably could've put the stock turbo, on and towed it in, but I had thrown away all of the heat sheilds and a bunch of other small things. Its all good!

wow you blew the 3071. Can i ask where the tiny pieces of metal were comming from?

edit: nvm i guess it was from blowing the old motor

whats the major differance from the 3071r to 3076r

GT3071R Bolt-on Turbo
Turbo is efficient up to 22 psi on the MS3/6 2.3L turbo engine and can produce 450 crank HP as configured with supporting mods and proper tuning. Uses stock exhaust manifold and very easy to install. The GT3071R is absolutely the best spooling turbo on the market capable of making 450HP. Highly recommended for a very broad powerband with a lot of "area under the curve".

GT3076R Bolt-on Turbo is efficient up to 26 psi on the MS3/6 2.3L turbo engine and can produce over 500 crank HP as configured with supporting mods and proper tuning. Uses stock exhaust manifold and very easy to install. Turbo spools about 400-500 rpms later than the GT3071R on the 2.3L MS6 engine and should only be used on this engine if you plan to exceed 450 crank HP (or go over 22 psi of boost).

I am no expert but I think all you need to do is buy the 76R housing from ATP.. the compressor side is exactly the same, no?

Try here:

I still owe you from that deal on the HPFP, PM me and I will do my best to give you the best deal.

I don't know what you're talking about?

The 3071r has a 71mm exducer, the 3076r has a 76mm exducer, and the gt35r is an 82mm exducer.

The larger wheels make more power but take longer to get going, which pushes your power band up- No fun in our cars... If I want to upgrade the turbo thats blown right now, then I have to completely replace the CHRA (center housing rotation assembly), which is about $900 retail. I can buy that and use everything else, which I may do. Its a matter of time and money now. Things are tight. I'm gearing up for traveling and starting some additional hobbies. Went and shot clay/skeet the other day. Never done it before, hit 23/25 clays. Never shot a shotgun before (other than a 4-10 when I was about 7 years old), I'm a stud. 12gauge carbon fiber benelli supersport II here I come ($1800).

I figured the stock turbo will do just fine for now, and is a cheaper route for the time being. That way I can throw the 3071r on the bench and clean it/port it/rebuild it.

carrollton, tx

and the wheels on the turbo were fine. I don't know what I want with this car anymore. I like just driving it. I may do some wheels next, and a $200 car wash would be nice.

I used to live in Carrollton, Denton now for college but I'm still there a lot. Do you go to any shows or meets? because I would love to see this monster that you've built/are building
