has anybody replaced this pointless piece of crap with a proper plastic oilcap from a regular 3?

There is no point in making these out of aluminum... doing so only adds weight and ensures that you won't be able to comfortably remove the oil cap after driving unless you have a glove on.

how much those 3 grams of weight reduction actually give you HP wise?

but i have to agree, the most dumb mod if you like to open the oil cap after a 2 hr drive.

but again, who does this on a regular basis?

everytime i change my oil i do it right after a good drive when the oil is hot... taking off that aluminum cap is annoying. Plastic caps are better :)

And no, I'm not REALLY upset by this, I just wanted to b**** because it was silly of them to put it on stock when it adds absolutely no performance benefit whatsoever and only adds weight and reduces usability.

It is Surly Thursday... you HAVE to rant about something on Surly Thursday.

Just splitting hairs but it's more like 3 ounces... roughly 80 grams  no, i don't actually want to change it because of the weight difference. I want to change it because it makes no sense to have it and it's annoying when i change my oil.

lol get a pair of Mechanix gloves :p lol probably cheaper than a new oil cap hehe.... just bustin your balls ;)

This thread is pointless... (bang)

I personally like the oil cap... I think its the bomb!! (2thumbs)

*The cap helps gain traction up front due to its weight!!!

$8.61 MSRP
I might have my dealership get me one.

fancy red oil caps result in +5 whp...go a ahead and get a plastic one, but make sure to dyno before and after.....you'll be going back to it in no time

Am I the only one who had a brand new plastic cap in the glove box when I picked up the car from the dealer? It is of course still in the bag in the glove box, the aluminum cap just looks so much nicer.

No, I got one also and I threw mine in my tool chest.

yeah me too. i still have it in there

what the hell? I didn't get a free plastic one :(

Not only was my plastic oil cap in the glove box, but they thoughtfully bubble-wrapped and boxed the original gas door so I could take that optional satin eyesore off immediately :)

...just doesn't look right on Metro Gray.

did anybody with a 2008 get the plastic cap or was that just 2007?

i have an 08 and got the plastic cap bubble wrapped in the hatch area. As a matter of fact I never noticed the red cap when I bought the car (at night) and the next morning I was going to work and put my stuff in the back and saw it sitting there. it had rolled out of the bubble wrap. I thought they had left it off and freaked out for a second. lol

It doesnt bother me when I take it off to cool after a long drive as I drive with gloves on the twisties anyways (have had extremely sweaty hands for my entire life). So it doesn't really bother me one way or the other.
