New iPhone 3G News!!!!!!

just my 2 cents: I was eligable for an upgrade a month ago when I bought my iPhone and I still paid full price. The only complaint I have is that there's a new one coming out and I didn't know about it! But I have the 8gb version and absolutely love it, I've got about 1200 songs on it, but I don't do much else to use up the memory so its almost maxed out. Also the lack of picture messaging and inability to take videos is kind of sadening, but I absolutely love this phone! I'm actually typing this response on it right now! I would encourage everyone to at least go and play with an iPhone, definately one of the cooler techno devices out today!!

do you live under a rock? :p

current iphone owners will be eligible for the upgrade price so you could get a replacement 8gb for $200 with 3g/gps and then sell yours on ebay for probably more than you paid for it. at&t's 3g network is not very widespread yet so it may not be worth the hassle to you

In regards to the 1st edition iPhone their will be some nice updates available that allows for you to save pics directly from e-mails to your device.

The iPhone 3G will be my next phone!!!

i laugh when i see things like this. my interpretation is "we gave you a phone missing quite a few simple features that phones costing half as much have been able to do for years. now when we let you do these basic things you think we're a good company for it and often times, because of how it is presented, that other phones don't offer this functionality instead of complaining about how lacking the product was to begin with."

I agree that the iPhone was lacking a few basic things, but overall it is a great device.

Technology changes and advances on a daily basis.

If you were around the iPhone when it first launched, updates were being sent to the devices on a weekly basis, I would say about 2 - 3 updates a week for the first month. (Don't quote me on that)

You run into so many different issues when you deploy items like these to the masses because now instead of having lets say 10 test mules being used you now have 100 to a half a million people using them.

No that they are fully aware of the issues; they can now create a more strong stable device.

Technology is just like cars. Do you go out and buy a car when it is first introduced for the first time; I know I don't, I wait for the second or third year to buy so that all of the "recalls" are taken care of the manufacture replaces all of those parts for the next year.

totally agreed. i know far too well how initial releases lead to bugs, that's understandable. the strange part was more the just totally leaving out basic features.

what i laugh at is when people see something that jobs does and think it's amazing. for example a middle aged woman at work bought an iphone when they came out and watched jobs' keynote yesterday. she was impressed with the "blogging directly from the iphone" and i look at her and am like "seriously? that's a good 5 years ago that it would have been an impressive feature." but she thinks it's new

I love the new updates to the iPhone but i'm not about to dump Verizon for AT&T. guess ill have to keep my phone...I really want a device like the iphone that has 80+gigs, A Phone, A decent Point and Shoot camera, and other pda functions.

Also they are not really cheaper....sure the up front cost is cheaper but the data plan price raised. You pay an extra $240 over two years in "increased" data plan costs. That totals $439 for the 8gig model. AT&T has subsidized a portion of the handset's cost so that apple can announce a new lower price...blah blah blah...

you'll have to wait a few years for that one. the price of large flash memory has to come way down and improvements in battery life or energy consumption have to improve greatly. the biggest disappointment will still be the camera but even in other countries you get 5-10mp phone cameras that are ok just not as good as an equivalent mp dedicated camera.

yes, you pay $10.month more for data, but correct me if i'm wrong, didn't they lower the basic voice plan by $5 (now 39.99 was $45, i think) a month, too?

am i the only one that still isnt impressed with the iphone? ive played around with a couple of them and i cant stand the text input.

blackberry curve ftw!

^^the keyboard just takes getting used to. I'm no Apple fan but I have to admit, the iphone is a really cool device. With ms exchange active sync push tech on the iphone 2 software, they're trying to muscle into the corporate market. I still think it would be a while before they could compete effectively with Blackberry or even Palm but they're getting there.

yes, I know this. I own an ipod touch. The keyboard takes getting used to but it will never be as efficient has a tactile keyboard. It may get the job done but I text a lot and the touch keyboard (even with it correcting you) is counterintuitive IMO.

i have such a (probably unjustified) negative impression of blackberrys from their early days when they were so not fun. also glad to see they finally have a 3g model

I switched from bb to the iphone. I must say the iPhone is the bomb! I hated the fact that with the BB, you needed the BB add on service to get any of the BB perks. Plus you are limited to mods and applications. The iPhone can do more and organizes just as well.

Well I currently have the one w/ wifi... so thats great... MUCH faster then EDGE service... I do alot of crap... plus get a BUNCH of free programs for the fone so thats ALWAYS GOOD...

I agree. Blackberry FTW. I can't live without it.

Maybe we need to get a PIN exchange going here...

Waited in line for two hours on Sunday and picked up my new iPhone, I must say this thing is pretty sick.

The download speed is stupid when you are on the 3G network, but it also wastes your battery faster than if you were on the regular network.
But like any other cell phone I have used, the first couple of times using the device, the batteries have to go through a break in period.
So far I have been able to go a whole day usually starting around 8:00 am and plugging the phone in to charge around 11:00 pm.
During that time I am surfing the web, making calls, listening to my music and keep my blue tooth and wireless connected. So for me the battery life is not and issue. But, if you are traveling be sure to take your charger.

The new app store is cool with a lot of useful free downloads and games.

Coverage of the 3G network is pretty decent out here in CA. so I have service pretty much anywhere I go.

Sound quality for the speaker phone in my opinion is a lot better than the first gen and the way the device sits in you palm is a big improvement. (The new iPhone has a slight curvature to the back.)

Overall rating of the new iPhone, I give it a 10 out of 10 and a must have if you are looking for a new all in one device.
