Today I went 215.5 of which 55.5 were not Interstate. I used 6.03 for an average of 35.737 mpg. On the return trip I went 181.6 miles of which 160 were Interstate. I used 4.73 gallons and got 38.39 mpg. I was drafting semis as much as possible both ways. The only changes since my last post were: an oil and filter change as well as having the Mazda dealer service the car as the check engine light came on.
i didnt reset either of the trip meters when i got the car, and won't need to fill up till the end of the week, so i wont be able to calculate the actual MPG until a couple of weeks from now.
you can shift at 2500 all day and still get bad mileage if you are accelerating quickly. if you stay off the boost and cruise at about 2000 rpm, you should be able to push pretty good mileage.
with no particular attention paid to driving for higher mpgs, i got 29 on a tank that was 3/4 highway and 24 on a tank that was 1/4 highway. keep in mind tho that they're break in miles.
Besides driving habits, I think these things will help:
-install a CAI (I noticed about 1-2mpg)
-remove excess weight (bowling ball, weight set...etc)
-use "v-power" Shell gas or a gas that has no ethanol (I noticed about 9% increase in number of miles I got out of 12.5 gallons of gas, which is when I usually fill up. I got 310 miles instead of 280 miles)
-Install engine management system (Ive heard up to 3mpg increase when this is installed and your car is tuned on a dyno)
-use synthetic oil (I have no experience with this, but people have suggested it helps)
My MS3 achieves 28 mpg (fill up method) when I drive it like an econo box. It gets 21-22 mpg when exercising my testosterone and 25 when having a little fun. Don't know if it matters but I have the slowest ms3, blue.
I tried this but I didnt use up all the gas before fill up, just a tiny was left according to the gas meter... In this case do we just assume the miles if we actually did use up all the gas?
You don't have to use "all" the gas. Use the trip odo. Like the man said, fill the tank, reset the odo. Drive normally, then fill it again. Divide miles on the trip odo by the number of gallons. To be truly accurate, you MUST fill completely. Don't rely on the gas pump shut off. They're not accurate enough. To answer the original question -- If you drive the speeds you indicate, you should get at least 28 mpg. Mine got just over 30 on a trip last weekend at those speeds (still breaking it in, normallly I don't drive that slow (wink) )
