Turtle wax ICE..Love it!

the liquid claybar will not give you the same results as a actual claybar.

many people have done comparisons on the detailing forums im on, and it was determined that the liquid clay bar, is more of a paint cleaner than a clay bar.

a paint cleaner is used to remove old layers of wax and sealant without leaving a sealing residue (like a cleaner wax does)

pre wax cleaners are used to make the paint bare, and make it so that the new LSP (last step procedure i.e the wax or sealant) adheres better to the paint.

hmm, good to know..
well i have a liquid platinum ms6, doesnt have much damage on the paint at all, just wanted to clay bar to see how it would turn out..so i know that i dont need a super good clay bar, but what would u recommend?

a good over the counter product that gets the job done is the meguiars clay kit or the mothers clay kit.

the first time you clay will take you a long time, but the more often you clay (not your car, but lets say you start claying others peoples cars) youll start doing it quicker and quicker.

if you get the mothers clay kit, seperate the clay into 3 chunks, and retire or demote the clay pieces, when they start to stick to your hand. a 1/3 of the mothers claybar is enough to clay your entire car at least 2 times depending on the condition of the paint.

edit: the plus of the megiuars clay kit is that you get a pretty plush microfiber towel. which is of decent quality

I've used ICE for a while and I'd definitely recommend it. It looks great, safe for paint as far as I can tell, and is super easy to apply. And you can use it on black rim pieces too, no problem, which saves a lot of effort. The only negative is that it doesn't last too long, I wax about once every 4 months and the wax is pretty much all gone by that time.

I just tried clay for the first time a couple weeks ago. I first washed an cleaned the wheels really well. Next, I washed the car down with a little bit of Meguiar's car wash mix and mostly dish detergent to clean right down to the paint. After that, I dried using a microfiber towel.

Then I used some Mothers Scratch Remover on any scratches that I saw. Then I used a 3M Finishing scratch remover on top of those scratches. The Mothers stuff is absolutely amazing, by the way.

Then I clayed the whole car using half of the bar. I used Clay Magic. I then waxed the whole thing using NXT 2.0. Finally I finished up all of the black plastic with Mother's Back to Black and dressed the tires. Took me 5 hours with a short break for lunch!! I am not doing that again any time soon. For me, I think I will only clay once a year in the spring. Maybe also in the fall again if I am feeling ambitious.

Amazing results though. Just amazing. (2thumbs)

Just did the ICE thing just now, it was soooo much more easier to apply than regular wax, and it gives similar if not better results. Gonna put another coat on, just to make it more shiny.
then do the same thing to my 2000 protege.

Sounds all kinda gimmicky. They even have a lil informercial on their website. even has the Buy this stuff now and get even more for free! I'll stick to my P21s for now.

That's what I think about most products.

Plain old, good quality Carnuba wax if you have time and energy, and liquid wax if you don't. It's worked well for me, for 32 years. For me, waxing is only to protect the paint, which protects the metal underneath. I have found out the hard way that environmental chemicals, dirts, bird s***, bug goo, etc. will actually infiltrate your paint and cause rust.

Plus, shiny paint helps resale value (even if POS).

My bicycle frame builder (Waterford) uses an interesting steel treatment and super-tough primer - an approach I like. More cars need this kind of protection.

Waxing tip for MS3: do door side moulding delete. I didn't do this for the car's looks because I rely on my own personal beauty for attractive purposes. I don't worry about beautifying my cars! (loser)

Just did my second coat after just 3 weeks since the first. ******* massive ice storm hit So Cali this past week and I was trippin about my poor car being in the middle of it. To my surprise it did very well with just a few specs in the clear coat and a few surface scratches in the clear coat.

I really like the Ice compared to NXT so far and the fact it shines plastics is genius.

Turtle wax ice sucks. The shine is not quite what you get with a good quality wax and it static charges your car. I had 2 weeks worth of pollen and dust on my car in 1 hour.

I'll keep using my regular wax. Besides, it keep my guns shapely.

i got tired of telling people ICE is a terrible product...

there is so much better OTC products.

I will clarify that I use the paste version not the liquid stuff. The paste apparently lasts longer and is more durable.

So far it wins against NXT but I have not tried other brands as of yet. Not sure why you guys dont like the ICE products but if you havent tried them you may change your mind. It is interesting to heard about the static charge on the car because I never thought wax would be the cause for that and I dont think that is the case. That s*** always runs to my car and sticks, especially on my black color.

i have personally tried many different waxes from different brands as well as ICE last summer, and by far it was probably one of the worst products i used. it wasnt as durable as NXT, the protection wasnt there, and the slickness was completely gone after 1 wash.

the best wax i have used so far is pinnacle signature series II, its a carnuba wax, and is a wipe on, wipe off kind of wax, so it doesnt have to sit there and haze. as far as protection, i use Meguiars 21 synthetic sealant, which is a great product, but there are better products out there. (but its what i have for now, so ill use it)

if you want a really good bang for buck wax, check out the collinite line of waxes. really cheap, extremely durable, and has great looks. its usually available at marine supply stores, or a car quest.

Well my ICE looks good after a few washes and a bitchin ice storm so I dont agree. The water was still beading much better then the NXT was after a few washes.

I wipe my car daily with detailer and dont really have to wash it unless it rains so that may help. The issue I had with the NXT is that after a few wipe downs or washes the MF towel wouldnt glide on the paint like it did just after waxing. The ICE on the other hand keeps feeling as if it is waxed but I just started using it so need more time to make a final call about what I think.

I dont really ever see my self buying very expensive wax on the net but maybe its what must be done to get the really good stuff. These new synthetic waxes are just so easy to use and while they may not shine like carnuba they offer enough shine and offer the required protection. I am no expert but they make me happy and I would rather have a decent product that needs to be applied more often then a very expensive one that I try to stretch out by applying less often.

For me its one of those things where if you have a lame weekend with nothing to do it is a car waxing day. I seem to just do it when I have nothing better to do so this time around it was only 3 weeks between waxing and the ICE still looked great. The ice storm we had freaked me out and had me cringing at the sound it made on my car so I did a fresh coat of ICE for a nice inspection of the paint and to wipe the pain I get away, lol.

In the end have to strongly disagree that it doesnt last more then a wash or handful of washes based on my initial impressions. For sure it is lasting longer then NXT but I know they have the new 2.0 out so maybe when this is done I will try that again. More then likely since ICE shines plastics and I dont have to worry about using Back to Black all over the car I will stick with it, time will tell.

PS just waxed my car with the ICE and the wifes with NXT (left overs, lol) so I will compare the 2 after a few weeks and see whats up. It should be a fair comparison although I did liquid clay bar mine before the wax to remove any old NXT and I did not do that to hers. Hers had the NXT from several months ago so I didnt worry about a change in product affecting its adhering properties.

When I first got my car I used Eagle 1 nanowax, what crappy wax, it didnt turn black plastic white which was the only positive about it. That wax job lasted about a month and 3-4 washes, since then I've used Mothers clay bar and the regular wax that came with that and love the result, that was only a week ago so I've yet to see how that will hold up.

I just bought this stuff based on this thread and I am impressed. Was easy to apply and wipe off (took about 20 mins) and had a great gloss look to it. I did it yesterday so I can not comment on the longevity of the product.

It did rain this morning and it beaded like a carnuba wax did. One thing I did notice though, it was 85 and sunny htis afternoon and when I went to fold in my drivers side mirror, I noticed it still had a very oily consitancy.

I used very little product to achive the look it gave me so all in all I'm happy with the initial results. And no it does not copare to the zanio treatment but it still looks very good none the less.

For anyone who is interested in hearing about (yet another) easy synthetic wax, I've been using Duragloss Aquawax for about a year now and am 100% devoted to this stuff.

It can be used as a "wax as you dry" after washing, but I prefer drying the car first. Then, just spray this stuff on and buff it off, one body panel at a time.

VERY easy to apply, leaves the paint feeling very slippery and water beads and rolls right off afterwards. I tried this stuff because it came very highly recommended at Autopia.org, and I am glad I did.

I agree.. ICE sucks.

I spent *hours* detailing my GF's Saab while she was out of town as a favor to her. After washing, clay bar, paint cleaner, and polish it was starting to look downright decent. Then I use that ICE junk on the car and it ended up looking like I had just turned bag of potato chips inside out and rubbed the chip grease from the inside of the bag all over the paint.

It looked terrible and left the car untouchable (the film of "wax" got on your hands and clothes every time you touched the car) so I ended up having to bust out the dish soap and rewash the car all over again (and again, and again before that junk came off) and go back to some good old Mequire's. It's months later and that ICE crap is still in the cracks between the trim and the paint... I can smell it.

not to mention that the liquid ICE polish, is a supposed to be a LSP

however a true polish is a abrasives suspended in an oil based liquid that requires heat and friction to break down.

the liquid version was nothing more than well... a slippery liquid. i still have a full bottle sitting in my garage. i have no use for it whatsover.
