They let me test drive mine, but the sales person wanted to also go. I gave her the gas face. She said that her manager wanted someone on the salestaff to accompany everyone who test drove a mazdaspeed vehicle. I asked why I was allowed to take the Mazdaspeed6 out with no chaperone. She didn't have an answer. She brought her sales manager out. He looked at my wife and I, determined we were old and crusty and that it would be ok for us to drive the car all by ourselves!
the dealership that won't let me test drive is the one that just lost my business. Same for requiring a credit check or deposit.

Same here I just drove down the road to another one and test drove it.
I bought from the dealer that let me test drive. Paid 2k under MSRP for a 08GT!
22k offer on a sport or gt? hmm...i wondering if the dealership was being shady b/c i'm 18
it was for a true red GT without nav or anything
Find another dealer, but don't go too far as you'll want to service it where you bought it. Trust me on that one.

having at least marginal maintenance and service work done where you bought it engenders a good relationship with the dealer and their service department. This can come in handy when warranty repairs are needed vs. denial or voiding of warranty for any slight reason.

True, but if you buy it from one and always have service done at another it probably wont cause any problems either.
Take myself for example. I bought mine at a dealership that has a really bad service dept (They will void your warranty in a heart beat over the slightest f'n thing) Needless to say I don't go there for service.

I got mine about three weeks ago; 2008.5 GT MGM, $2000 under MSRP. sister got one a couple of days later, she paid $500 more BC hers came with Sirrius.
No problem getting a test drive. I had called for a quote and they practically begged for me to test drive. on the Day of the test drive, they called to confirm that I was coming, and I told them I had ben given a better price; they dropped another k on the spot. Five hours later i was driving home in the 1st MGM in the Triad.

True, but if you buy it from one and always have service done at another it probably wont cause any problems either.

or you just make good friends with the service dept guys, throw around a bit of cash there on misc. parts, and no longer do you have to worry about 'voided warranties' =P
granted, my warranty was only around for about 10k since my msp was used...but still haha

That's the key right there, building a good relationship with their service department.

when you say $2000 under MSRP, is that including any transportation fees and other BS fees?

Heres the most recent news on my quest to getting my MS3....
Earlier in the week I called up another dealership, spoke to a salesperson...I came in today to talk numbers and test drive....The salesperson gave me this whole talk about how they're a no BS dealership, no back & forth crap...blah blah blah.
We sit down to talk numbers he goes and gets the invoice, shows it to me (I'm lookin @ a GT btw) he gives me his price of 22,800 -- I told him 22k was my price to buy now, he said he couldn't go that low...so I walked. He calls me back 5 min after I left and says he spoke to his manager and he can get me in a car for 22k 2nite, i turn around. We're filling out paperwork and then he comes back to the desk and apologizes b/c he realizes that he was showing me the invoice for the sport and basing his prices off of that. According to his sheet the 22k was $150 above invoice (this invoice price included $650 for transportation & around $300 for a "NY state assessment").
He then brings back the invoice for the GT which had the invoice @ $22590 & $23582 w/ the transportation & NYS assessment fee (this is what he based his prices off of) and he tells me he can go about the same $150 above invoice and offered me $23,750. I walked......(this was for a 2008.5 btw)

yes i would be very surprised to see them sell it that low. i paid 24.5 for mine with locks Sirius compass mirror and wheel and tire warranty i would think the 23750 is a pretty damn fair price i really don't see them dropin nearly 2g for you just my opion they know they can sell them

There is the difference in price right there. Your GT has extra options that easily put it over 22 into 23....
the sirius alone is $389, plus that fancy mirror and tire stuff adds $
I'm chiming in. I'm 25 and had no trouble getting a test drive for the MS3. For a 22k or 25k car, getting a test drive should not be that hard. And it's not like the car is at the end of its run just yet; it still has all summer and into fall before they stop production _I think_. The car is awesome, yes, but it isn't a Porsche. If you tell them you aren't going to buy the car from them without a test drive first and make like you're walking out the door, I bet they'll hop-to really quicklike and offer you that test drive.
