Cobb is out and i have mazdaspeed cai :(
cant decide if i should get sri + accessport and ditch the cai or just wait till they come out with map for cai. Probably latter, since i have zero problem with cai.

They want to pimp their own intake. While other intakes are slightly different, Cobb's tunes are safe, somewhat reserved. I would seriously doubt having a different intake would cause a problem.

yea, theres a hp difference between the two I'm sure, but are the a/f ratios that different between the two intakes? thats where the tune would get jacked up if it were hugely different

I'm sure it was tuned with the Cobb SRI so I would be a little carefull with using a different intake is all.

Worse case scenario you buy a Cobb sri ($175) and be done.

Ppl probably think I blow Cobb by now (blowjob) lol!

lol, I see your point, but not everyone has $175 to just throw out on top of the cost of the AP heh

I dont know the differences between the two tune maps, but I would imagine that the cobb has higher HP number by leaning out the mixture a tad (by being a shorter ram or using a free-er flowing filter...I dont know exactally)...if you were running the ms CAI and it was not leaning out the mixture as much all you are going to do is richen up the AP tune a little bit

it may result in lower hp numbers, but I highly doubt it would do any damage to run the cai instead

again though, I don't know what the two maps look like so I could also just be blowing smoke out my a**

look at the msp with the unichip...its a piggy back setup with only one tune on it...you can run stock intake, cai, turboback exhaust, any brand, you name it....it would not damage your car if you had a different set of mods, you would just see different hp numbers

the logic behind saying that it is not good to run it with a ms cai over a cobb intake is not really there though...thats like saying 'the stock computer is tuned by mazda, so running the ms cai would be better than running the cobb'....

Stage 2 + COBB SF Intake + FMIC (turbo-back exhaust, COBB SF Intake, and COBB FMIC, otherwise stock

what will happen if instead fmic I will have upgradeed tmic and runing this stage??

Your motor will most likely blow

Cobb reps will come to your house and beat you.....

but seriously now, I think the FMIC map would not give you the full benefit because with TMICs (don't get me wrong, I'm going to upgrade my TMIC too) there is still an issue of heatsoak, especially in stop and go traffic. Because the FMIC is more consistent the map is probably more aggressive and you may run into issues on your setup.

Of course, I have nothing to back this up with. I say, call up Cobb and ask someone. They will be able to tell you better than any of us. Good luck with it(drinks)

The ecu in the ms3 is WAY different than the MSP. The MAF has been shown to be extremely sensitive to inputs and is used as a primary variable by the ecu to determine boost and afr (all according to cobb). They aren't bullshitting or pimping their own intake. They said they would have a map for the MS CAI up in a few weeks. They don't have any obligation to buy and test other company's crap parts but they know there are alot of MS CAI owners out there so it would be profitable.

I understand that the ms3 is way different than the msp, I was speaking about tuning, the msp was an example though there are MANY other cars out there that have the same scenario as well

however, I do stand corrected as I was not aware that cobb was making a special map for the ms cai...if that is the case then use that, but if that were not the case I would still argue that it would not hurt anything to run the cobb intake tune on the ms cai
