So I got my first mod yesterday and am happy to say that it's a nice improvement. I couldn't get those three bolts off like everyone was talking about so I used the scissor jack trick and they went in smooth. When I was pulling the mount out though it shot right into my face and left me with a battle scar. Now when I look in the mirror I will remember my mazda's metal tongue attack! Everything else went smooth and I can feel a slight difference in shifting now. I can feel almost zero vibrations so that's a positive! Next step is installing my bushings I got yesterday. Oh and my cobb intake is arriving today! It's like christmas!

i'm the opposite of you. i just installed my bushings last week or the week before and my CS inserts are sitting on the counter. i plan to install them this weekend. the bushing really clean up any sloppyness in the shifter. can't wait to install the inserts. cobb sri is next on my list as well.

Hilarious you say this, i also did the motor mount this past weekend however I went the route of filling the stock mounts with a high PSI epoxy so far i def love it. I too suffered a battle scar in the exact same way, man when that mount comes out it really comes out. It left me with a nice scratch on my nose and a fat lip to boot!

It sure does come out quick! I should write an install guide that includes a face guard as one of the required tools.

Ok I am going to install the CS inserts this weekend when I do my BC Coilovers. How exactly do i avoid getting a motor mount in the face? :)

I would suggest using the scissor jack method when taking out the motor mount and it should slip out easy. Just prop the jack in between the transmission and the mount bracket and open it up until the bracket can slip right out. Also try and position yourself to the side of the bracket so if it does come out fast it won't hit you.

Agreed, you definetely want to remove the 3 bolts and remove the bracket instead of using any jack tricks. Any amount you move the motor without the bottom mount installed is just extra stress on the remaining stock(bad weak rubber) mounts, so you should avoid stressing them in my opinion. If you remove that bracket, the mount can be reinstall with no effort whatsoever, seriously, no jacks, no anything, you could drive up on a curb slide under the car with a 17mm socket and ratchet and have the mount on in 10 minutes max, vs. 20mins, stressing the other mounts and a black eye when fighting it lol. The only extra tool you need is a 19mm socket in adition to the 17 needed for the MM.

I did it the hard way b/c I didn't have a 19mm socket... It comes out pretty easy without the bracket removed, but getting it back in with the inserts installed is a bit of a struggle...

I removed the three bolts and the one thru the mount. Took longer to jack up and secure the car than it did to remove the bolts and install the inserts. No moving the engine. Only easier mod would be a sticker mod.

You may have them in backwords if they were hard to slide back in. They are not universal.

Where did you get your Cobb? I can't find one.

Quick question, my insert is in the mail. I have not jacked up the speed yet. Would it be fine to put it on ramps or just raise the front, or would the angle make it problematic? Are all of you guys raising the whole car on jackstands to install?

I got my cobb from Street Unit. I ordered it like last friday and he said they had like 40 in stock. So unless he sold that many since then you should be in luck. Also when I installed my motor mounts it was like impossible to get those three screws off. Did you guys use power tools or something or were mine just on extra hard?

Lestat13: I just raised one side of my car on jackstands. Ideally it would be best to get as much room under as possible so you can get as much leverage on the screws.

I got mine installed along with the shifter bushings and both of those together makes the car shift much better and IMO smother.

congrats! yeah there worth 35bucks makes the car better I havent missed 3rd gear since they where installed

+1 - I haven't really thought about it until you mentioned, but I haven't missed 3rd gear either since the install.

For those of us who have yet to do the mount install, some of you guys should post in the how-to threads about the mount and mention the safety issue of things flying toward your face and which "step" in the process it happens. Of course that info may already be mentioned in there. I don't have time to read through and check right now.

Here's one of the mount install threads:

That's the write up that I went off of to do the installation. I guess the part where he says to watch your fingers is where you need to be careful. Rather than slowly wiggling it out I just yanked on it. So future advice: slowly wiggle this mount or it will attack you!

I also only raised up one side of the car. You need a long handle socket wrench to break the 3 bolts loose.
